[Day Eleven - Early Evening] A Fruitless Return

With Kitsu Izumi's arm over her shoulders, Wasako continued to lug the shugenja through the city gate when they were allowed through by the guard. They had unfortunately returned with fewer people. She would relinquish the Kitsu back to the waiting Lion, assuming that they had waiting healers reserved for the very important Kitsu daimyo.

After that responsibility was lifted from her, she would glance back to see if Bayushi Setsuna had made it and she could have sworn the Scorpion was right behind her. Unfortunately, Setsuna might have reached safety but not with their life. She wandered over to a wall and slumped against it to take a much-needed breather.

Batzurig had not heard of the venture to rescue Matsu Tani, he had heard of the disastrous encounter that led to her capture the day prior but not the rescue mission as he approached the gates and saw someone carrying another. That must have been the woman with a mirror that summoned demons or something, the one carrying her he did not know and as the daimyo was probably being seen to, he ushered Bashiru closer to the now slumped woman.

He tossed down a water skin and said, “You look like shit, sayyeda. Scouting mission gone bad?”

Wasako's attention wasn't on anywhere else except the ground and merely saw a water skin right before her. She painfully bent down to pick it up with a broken arrow still in her arm. Her gaze went to the horse at first. "...Thank you for the water...and no, it wasn't a scouting mission..."

Her gaze then went up to the bigger shadow that was cast over her by the rather tall Unicorn. She straightened in her posture, trying to make it seem like she had been talking to him the entire time. "...Unicorn-sama. It was a rescue mission. We failed..."

He leaned forward giving her his full attention from the saddle, “Rescue missions are risky affairs, to even attempt one is already a bold tactic. Seems like you survived, more or less.” His eyes fell to the injuries and the broken arrow still in her bloodied flesh, she had a tough time of it but still she carried someone in, that spoke of strength be it physical or mental… most likely both.

He allowed there to be silence and then he dismounted and patted Bashiru gently as he added, “You need some help getting to a tabib or do you plan to bleed out here, sayyeda?”

Seeing someone injured, Yuko moved forward, digging out a once very nice and recently battered and much used medical kit from her satchel. "Can I be of help?"

"Hai..." she said with a tired breath, wondering if it was worth the cost. Her thoughts went back to Tsukimi, Setsuna, and Tameaki. Setsuna died just getting here and she didn't know if they took prisoners other than Tani. The rest could have died too. "...more or less..."

Wasako fiddled with the water skin until she managed to pop over the top. She took a cautious draw from it at first and then perhaps realized that she was really more thirsty than she thought she was initially, knocked it back to take a bigger gulp. It wasn't elegant but she was tired and thirst, not minding some water ran down her chin. She did pause to wipe her face with her sleeve before handing the skin back to the Unicorn "Thank you..."

"The T-ta...?" she stammered her question as she tried to understand what he was saying. "I'm Mirumoto Wasako...and I could use a..."

She said as she placed her fingers between the broken arrow. "I could use a hand, please."

Her gaze went to the Moshi and she bowed deeply, despite the pain. "Please."

He was going to say something, but this was not his area of specialty, he could yank the arrow free with ease he thought but not sure if that was helpful. With a tabib here, well he hoped she was, you could never tell with this lot he felt she might be in competent hands at least.

He offered his only advice to the Moshi, “I can yank the arrow free, if that helps, tabib.”

"Hai, Mirumoto-sama, please, be still and I will do my best,"

She efficiently treats the Dragon, accepting the Unicorn's help in removing the arrow, a bit more gentle then just a yank though, before turning to help the Lion. "I never expected to get as much use out of my training in first aid as I have over the past few weeks."

Once finished, she bows. "I am Moshi Yuko."

He dropped the arrow to the ground and said, “Now you just need time and bed rest, most likely. Though I leave such remedies to the tabib, rest always served me well.”

"Hai, Unicorn-sama is correct, we must get you both somewhere where you can rest and get some warmth and water,: she agrees. "It should not be difficult with Unicorn-sama's help. Where should we guide you?"

A Phoenix came running up. "Mirumoto-sama!"

Miwako gave quick bows to the Unicorn and the Centipede, relieved that healing was already being offered. She looked over the Dragon and the Lion to see if they would need further assistance.

Yuko bows to the Phoenix. "If you can call upon the healing kami, it would not go amiss, Phoenix-sama. These two have suffered greatly and I have only my poor talents as a healer."

Wasako was thankful for the help that she was getting, although might have been comfortable with just fading from obscurity. Her sensei would remind her that self-pity was an insidious false lesson in life and one that should be dropped with haste. She gave a shake of her head to dismiss that thought from her mind.

She gave a nod to the Moshi and Unicorn to do their thing. Admittedly, she hadn't taken an arrow before and was in for an entirely different experience when it was yanked out of her. There was some relief once they patched her up afterwards.

"Thank you, Moshi-san, Unicorn-sama. Hai, rest..." she said softly, thinking about the guard shift she was going to be missing at the embassy because of it. "I'm currently staying at the Dragon embassy and I need to tell the others about Tsukimi-san..."

"Oh, Isawa-san," she said bowing to the approaching Phoenix.

"Bashiru can carry you to the embassy, if that is where you need to be," he said to the woman.

"You can be stubborn and say no and I pick you up anyways or just accept the gift horse."

A moment later, she produces a thin sheet of slate and some chalk from her sleeve, makes a quick note and tucks it away,

Despite her fatigue, she did manage to look up and give the Moto a big blink with wide eyes. If felt like she was being absconded. She looked downward and a bit unsure before answering. "Well, Unicorn-sama. If it's a gift horse, then I'm sure if I am worthy to receive it...I haven't been on a horse before, much less take care of it."

"A moment, please, Mirumoto-sama, Moto-san. Allow me to add to the blessings, Moshi-san has given." Miwako offered, as she unfurled a scroll.

After a few moments with each of the wounded, she smiled. "That should make the journey easier."

“Bashiru will throw you off gently I am sure,” he said with a straight face.

“You be nice to the… Miru-mo-to,” he said carefully. “Sayyeda has had a hard day being a resting place for arrows, don’t you give her attitude, Bashiru,” he said to the horse sternly.

He then offered to help her up, “I’ll guide her, you can just relax and enjoy the view, sayyeda.”

Wasako thought the blessings of the kami were miraculous. One moment she was hurt from battle and then she was fully restored. Her fatigue lingered but she wasn't going to expect everything. She bowed deeply after Miwako had finished, deeply thankful. "Thank you very much, Isawa-san. I am in your debt."

She still unsure about the horse gift and slowly accepted his aid up. "...thank you...but I don't know where we could even keep him...her in the embassy. You seem like a more worthwhile owner. What could I feed a horse, grass?"
