(D10, EA, Open) Lunching in the Rain

While the streets were full of murmured panic from the coming attack, and many samurai were hurrying around to prepare for battle, there was little else Poemu could do than make herself busy. Eating outside the embassy sounded nice, so she found a small eatery that served ramen. It was hot, tasty, and came with a nice tea as well.

Finding peace in her meal, Poemu relaxed.

In walked one Monkhbaatar, feeling a bit peckish. He had been too mentally preoccupied to realize that he had not eaten his morning meal. He looked around for a good spot to sit. When he saw one, he moved to a table next to where Poemu was. Before he could take a seat one of the servants passed by and slipped on a wet spot, bumping into Monkhbaatar who in turn nearly bumped into the Dragon. He caught himself and the boy quickly, and stood both upright.

"You okay kid?" he asked before the servant nodded and thanked him as quickly as he could, leaving him behind.

Turning to the Poemu. "I didn't get you with that kerfuffle, did I Dragon-sama?"

The slip had caused Poemu to start a bit, but when it seemed that both involved we're all right, she merely looked relieved. That look remained on her face when Monkhbaatar faced her, and she gave a seated bow.

"I am more than fine Doji-sama. I should be the one asking you if you are all right. Do you need a towel or anything?"

"No, I'm good. Nothing was spilled," he says with a nod.

"My first time in here. Anything good on the menu?" he asks.

"This is my first time in this establishment as well Doji-sama." She smiled and motioned to her table. "Perhaps we can discover together, hai? This one is Agasha Poemu, and would be honored if you joined her for a meal."

"Thank you for the invitation," he replies with a bow. "I am Doji Monkhbaatar. It is a pleasure."

Rising from his bow, he takes a seat with Poemu. "Ramen is relatively new to me, I've only had it a few times since the Unicorn arrived in the empire. It seems to have so many variations."

That brought a touch of a puzzled look before Poemu decided she might have things figured out. "Are you just married into the Crane then Doji-san? Your name and words make it seem as if you were once a Unicorn."

"Yes," he says with a nod. "A few months now. It has been an exciting learning experience thus far."

That brought a wry smile to the Agasha's lips. "I can only imagine Doji-san. Your family is a bastion of culture and poise and always has been. It must have been quite the learning experience indeed."

As she spoke, tea arrived, and a second cup was laid out as she had motioned for. The servant poured for them both before Poemu looked to Monkhbaatar. "Shall we just try whatever comes most recommended? This meal is on me, for the company."

""That sounds good to me,"' he says with a nod.

"It helps a great deal that my wife is an understanding and kind woman. But yes, other than time spent with her, I have been getting extensive lessons on proper etiquette. I had hoped to be learning more about the fortunes and the heavens, but my lords insistence on learning not to place my foot in my mouth took presedence." He grinned at that.

Poemu laughed softly into a sleeve, then told the servant to bring two bowls of the traditional. Turning back to Monkhbaatar, she nodded softly. "That sounds just like what a Doji would do. Not to say they aren't pious or scholars in their own ways, but they most certainly have proper appearances first."

She paused to sip at some tea before giving a sympathetic look. "Is your wife still in Doji lands then?"

"She is. She's an artisan, not a bushi, and I volunteered to help defend the Empire when I heard what was happening. It's been chaotic since I got here, and I've been mostly unable to help, but I do hope to put my training to good use in defense of the city."

Poemu looked a little puzzled before nodding. "Ah, of course. I had wondered, but Doji lands are not far away, are they? Still, Doji-san must have ridden quite fast to get here from the news of what happened. Did you just arrive at Nikesake, or did you get to Toshi no Omoidoso before it was evacuated?"

"I came here first, my lord told me to check in at the embassy since it was closer to the danger and likely had more information on how I could be useful. Now that I'm here, it seems that defending this city and it's people is the primary goal in this war at the moment," he explains. "And Meushi carried me like the wind."

"You are a bushi then Doji-san? A rarity among the Doji as is, even more so that can ride a horse and fight on the front lines. You must have impressed the Crane nakodo indeed to have such a match made." Poemu smiled warmly. It was, after all, a compliment.

"It was actually decided during a miai. I was selected by my spouse, and we had never met before hand. I was among those selected last too," he says with a chuckle.

"But I had focused more on making friends and enjoying the festival than on making a match. Seemed my spouse had similar thoughts, which is why we were not very high ranked for selections, but it worked out for us since we both had a somewhat relaxed attitude towards who our match would be. Funny how things work out in the end sometimes."

"A miai... ah, that would make sense. Your clan wasn't too long here, so the nakodo wouldn't have much time to make matches." It all seemed so obvious now!

As she spoke, the food arrived. Servants came carrying two bowls of ramen for them, setting each down in front of one of the two. One of the servants topped off both their tea's before they left.

The ramen was a basic shio ramen, lighter colored but with a salty kick to it. Naruto, soft-boiled egg, dried nori, menma, and bonito flakes topped it off. Poemu smiled and looked to Monkhbaatar. "You are the guest Doji-san. Please, let me know how it is. If this is a first, I'd start with a spoonful of broth and a chopstick of noodles."

He nods to the Agasha, before taking up the spoon and chopsticks. He gets a bit of broth in his spoon and some noodles between his chopsticks. Letting the noodles dangle into the spoon before lowering them to allow them to rest in the spoon broth.

Taking his first bite with minimal hassle and no mess, he nods as he enjoys the flavor. "It's very good. Please, don't let it cool too much," he says with a smile.

Poemu gave a giggle into a sleeve. "Have no worries about that Doji-san. I am not one to let food get away from me."

The Dragon took a few bites and slurps of her ramen before pausing to talk. Just eating would be dull! "So, will you be going out to fight later? I had heard the army is approaching, and many are to man the walls or go out on missions."

"I'll likely man the walls unless there is a call for cavalry. My talents are best used as an archer or scout," he says between bites. "And what of yourself? Did you come here from Morikage Toshi, Toshi on Omoidoso, or were you already in Nikesake?"
