[D10 LM Advisor's Room] Daytime nightmare

'Doji Sakura' found Doji Suimenko's room quite quickly, thankfully. Just a few questions, and a tray of tea and sweets in her hand and a facade of air in her head, and she was on her way.

Scratching at the door, she called out in a thin voice. "Doji-sama, it is Doji Sakura. I brought some breakfast!"

Sakura is redirected to a meeting room, and Doji Suiminko arrives a short time later. "Sara-san, welcome to the embassy." She motions for the other woman to have a seat.

Sara sat down in her Crane colors oppoiste of the Advisor.

"How has Doji-sama been?"

"Well enough." Suiminko seats herself opposite Sara. "This play that you are performing...do you have a copy of the script?"

"Hai Doji-sama, as you have requested." Sara handed over her copy to Suiminko.

Suiminko glances through the script, then looks up. "Wonderful. I will be making a few minor changes, but nothing that should harm the work you have created here."

Sara glanced up, and looked into the eyes of the Advisor.

"What kind of changes Doji-sama? As the director, I must know."

Artistic integrity. Who knew?

"Changes that will make it better." She smiled and set the script aside, nearer to her than Sara. "Nothing major, I promise. Tea?"

"Hai, some tea would be appreciated." Sara bowed in thanks, and continued her quest for clarity.

"As a fellow artist, I would appreciate you sharing your vision Doji-sama, what would be better."

Suiminko pours tea for Sara, refreshing her own cup before setting the pot aside. "I understand your desire to know more, Sara-san, but I do not intent to elaborate further. One should not question their lord's desires too much, neh?"

She offers a friendly smile. "Consider it a minor test of loyalty. The play will be better for a few small changes, and it will bring you one step closer to your ultimate goal."

"I understand Doji-san, though please note, it is not my manuscript. If the changes are notable, I will need to explain away why I made 'my' changes. I would not wish to arouse suspicion."

She raised the tea for a sip, but took a quick sniff and tasted it with the tip of her tongue before committing more.

Sara didn't detect anything unusual about the tea.

"As I said, the changes should not be significant. If your patron raises questions, merely claim that you believed the new wording to be better suited for such a dramatic performance." She watches Sara for a moment. "I do not think that you would find it difficult to convince someone to accept a few minor changes in the interest of the greater work."

Sara took a deep sip. "My lord puts me in a difficult position as an artist." She let out a sigh. "As her vassal though, I will do my duty."

She observed the Crane in front of her, her gaze curious. "I assume Doji-sama has heard about Seppun Kato's claims?"

Suiminko nods. "I have. A bold political move, but one that is in character for him."

"Ah, I assume you know him personally. Are you concerned about his move? Or do you have him as a preference by any chance?"

She took another sip of tea, her gaze unwavering.

"I wouldn't say personally, but he moves in similar circles." Suiminko shrugs her shoulders. "I am the Imperial Advisor. It is in my best interest to support the Empress. I doubt that either of the other options would allow me to keep my position."

Sara tilted her head. "Most probably...what is my lord's next step then?" She continued her line of questioning.

"In a general sense?" She motions around her. "Manage the Crane Embassy here until the situation changes. Either we will be overrun by the enemy army and either be killed or escape, or we will endure and the Steel Chrysanthemum will be defeated. Much of the future is out of my hands."

Sara nodded. "That does seem like a big pile of uncertainty. Anything else you would have me do Doji-sama?" She tilted her head in question.

She considers for a moment, then shakes her head. "Merely continue with your play as intended, Sara-san. We must ensure that you become the famous starlet that world requires, neh?" The Advisor smiles warmly. "I will ensure that the adjusted play is delivered to your room later tonight, if we are still within Nikesake."
