"This one wouldn't presume to compete with the Togashi for skin-ink, certainly. And this one has heard about such things in recent days. How common is such a thing, that the Togashi wed out?

"But this one hears the strains of the shisha in Agasha-sama's training. Has he the right of it?"

A deeper flush touched her cheeks. "A-ano, I had forgotten to answer Kasuga-san's question from before. I am trained by the Miya Heralds."

Willing away her embarrassment, she smiled faintly. "As to the Togashi... a few marry out, and a few marry in as well. Togashi Iko is an example of one that married in for instance. I think that your tattoo's are no less spectacular than theirs are Kasuga-san. even if they lack magic."

Seitouna chuckles a bit.

"This one knows an old man who would be immensely gratified by Agasha-sama's words. But, to answer her earlier question in turn, much of the work of a ship and of docks falls on the backs of...lessers. Among the other things the Kasuga teach is working with them to effect.

"Not unlike what this one has seen of the Miya during times when he has been in port near and in the Capital, if of much lesser degree, of course."

She nods softly. "Hai, the Miya ever seek cooperation between everyone, be they samurai, hinin, or even naga. I can understand how the people aboard a ship would need to work together as well. I had heard that the Kasuga worked well with their peasants, though... I have heard much about the Kasuga that many would consider in ill speaking."

Poemu seemed to speak up quickly to clarify. "N-not that I see anything wrong about compassion and working alongside heimin or hinin! In fact, I was taught it to be an honorable duty..."

She seems flustered, he thinks. Why?

"But Agasha-sama speaks of the Naga. Has she dealt with them?"

She shook her head softly. "Iie, I have not. I had heard a few visited Miya lands, but none that I have heard visited Dragon lands or Lion lands. I... am not certain how I would react meeting one Kasuga-san, I admit. Have.. you have the honor of meeting one?"

He nods.

"This one did. She called herself The Saravya." Again, he does not stumble over the pronunciation as many Rokugani might have. "I do not know if she made it from Toshi no Omoidasu hither, however."

"Is Kasuga-san well traveled then?" It seemed a topic that Seitouna skirted around, but she was curious. She moved a little closer so they could keep their voices low and polite. "And I suppose I am curious what brought him to Toshi no Omoidoso."

And beyond, he thinks, but he's not about to talk about that here.

When she moves closer, he is again aware of his surroundings. "As to Toshi no Omoidasu," he continues, "well, the Tortoise are always interested in ports and their vicinities." He looks her in the face. "One never knows what treasures are to be found."

The Agasha's look was what could only be called innocent thoughtfulness. "Treasure, Kasuga-san? ....Ah, like gifts and wares? I admit, I am hardly used to extravagant places in my own travels. Did you find anything there you'd call as such?"

Her head tilted in attentive curiosity.

The corner of Seitouna's mouth lifts slightly.

"Some might call them such, yes. And there was a stationer of excellent quality in Toshi no Omoidasu; it is hoped he was able to relocate.

"Unfortunately, time runs swiftly, and this one could only explore so much. But this city offers similar opportunities."

Again, he looks at her.

After a moment, Poemu gave a small nod. "Hai... I think I understand. I was debating if I would go out later to look at some art in the Street of Scrolls actually. It feels a touch surreal to go looking at art when we are still on alert, but your 'treasures' might make it feel a little less so."

She smiled faintly.

"Oh? When might Agasha-sama be thinking of taking in the local art?" Seitouna asks in some attempt to prevent strange time-warps, tenuous as such a thing might be.

"Ano... I was not certain, but I see no reason not to right after this. After all, the baths would keep my body warm while walking out in the rain for a good while. Besides, the more time passes, the more likely something could happen that might mean I would not have a chance to do so." She gave a soft sigh.

The look of light trouble didn't last however, and she gave Seitouna a smile. "Why, does Kasuga-san know something of art?"

"Some, as might be a surprise, this one knows."

He chuckles a bit.

"Life at sea teaches appreciation of several things, and though this one has not worked it, scrimshaw can be a great delight. Similarly, the kind of knots that keep rigging running smoothly and nets a-catching also do well in mats and hangings.

"Too, this one has some small skill in calligraphy, although certainly not so much as Agasha-sama is like to have seen in her schooling."

And late morning could be a pleasure, he thinks. A bit early, perhaps, but groundwork needs laying.

"This one could see about joining Agasha-sama, if she felt the need for company and did not worry about tetsudine plodding."

Poemu gave a small giggle into the palm of a hand, smiling. "I would not refuse such gracious company, though I fear it would be quite boring. Besides, I could not ask Kasuga-san to be out in this rain!"

She paused, thoughtful. It was a common occurrence. "Though... on a kobune, there must not be many places to hide from the rain, are there? No trees, no nearby inns, no cliff faces... how does one stay dry?"

"The simple answer, Agasha-sama, is that one does not. Below decks, there are places that are and remain dry--or it is devoutly hoped that they do!--and perhaps one might get dry after. But for those who must be on deck and aloft, being wet is a matter of course.

"It is, in fact, why so much aboard ship is oiled; the oil protects what might otherwise suffer from the moisture. But then, that makes it all the more apt to burn, which is why fire aboard ship is such an issue as it is.

"But this one can assure Agasha-sama that he is not unduly inconvenienced by rain. And this is milder than some he has seen, to be sure, and the clouds from which it springs are not so dark."

She gave a soft nod. "Hai hai. I am certain that it is something one grows used to, just as the Dragon grow used to the snow and ice. Still, I think that I would not be too long. What if we make a note to do some artistic 'treasure' exploring tomorrow?"
