Togashi Tetsu walked into the embassy with her bag slung over her shoulders. She certainly looked like she belonged. Despite her black clothing, she had the correct Mon and, most importantly, the legendary tattoos of the order...

From the outside, the embassy isn't as welcoming as it ordinarily would be; the heavy floor-to-ceiling wooden storm shutters have been pulled and latched shut around the covered walkways on the street side of the building. Through the gate, however, the shutters on the inner side of the house facing the yard are still open. In the graveled yard, another Togashi seems to be in the middle of a morning exercise or meditation, moving carefully through a series of kata with a staff held in a two-handed grip.

Interestingly, it seems to be a kata properly meant for a bladed polearm, even though the staff she is using is, well, just a staff. This might or might not be obvious to Tetsu; it may depend on how much time she's spent either training with polearms or observing other people using them.

Comfort wasn't something sought for, not even when injured. Propriety mattered little to her too, if not at all. She watched her fellow Togashi with patience. Indeed, she seemed to be very interested in this performance.

Though she was in the dark about the whole "polearm" bit. She did have a much more "hands on" approach to battle.

Myo-en gives the staff a final twirl and grounds its butt in the gravel, ending her routine with a deep bow in the direction of the rising sun. The dense pattern of tattoos covering her shoulders and ribs moves and shifts like the breeze through a real bamboo grove as her rapid breathing begins to slow. After a few long moments, she straightens and tugs a kerchief out of the waistband of her hakama, patting her eyes, face, and and neck to help them dry faster in the chilly morning air. She turns in Tetsu's direction as she does so.

Eyebrows arch above very dark, keen eyes. "Hello, sister. Welcome to Nikesake?" The rise at the end of the last word marks her surprise at seeing a newcomer today.

Tetsu waited at attention, just like at the monastery. Old habits. "Thank you for the welcome, sister. It is indeed my first day in Nikesake." She loosened her stance and lowered her eyes.

"Say, Togashi-san, have we met before?"

"M--" Myo-en's voice begins to come out with a bit of a croak, and she swallows and licks her lips before resuming much less hoarsely--"Maybe, Togashi-san? I trained at a small shrine in the far north, but I have been much more in the High House of Light these last two or three years--Shiro Mirumoto too."

She cups her hands together--left hand over right fist, with the damp kerchief still trailing from the fingers of her right hand--and bows to the newcomer. "I am called Myo-en, if that shakes loose any memory."

Early in the morning, Mai sat in the common space attending to her tattoo. Working diligently to see that they were done, a piece of the backdrop and often nothing more. Yet there she sat, there she worked, tirelessly. It would yet only be a matter of time before the tattoo that represents and honors the loss of Matsu Mogami, a rising sun and a lone lioness, was finally complete.

Next.. next was just to finish the honoring of another.

"Myo-en? A senpai of mine, though there may be multiple." Tetsu paused for a few moments before doing a high kick to the chin. Of course, she was not close enough, so it was more for show than anything else. It was a move meant to cover her retreat as she assumed her fighting stance.

"It's been awhile since I've been tested by one of my sisters. Come, you are already training."

Myo-en's lips quirk a bit. "Is that how it is? No breakfast for you first, sister?" She tosses her staff aside to crunch onto the gravel a few feet away, and flows like water back into a low, grounded stance.

"Battle does not always come on a full stomach," Tetsu mused. She glanced down at the stick and then smirks at Myo-en. "You sure you don't want the extra help?"
