Th Unicorn embassy is that what they called it as this solitary building, and this is where Baatar-senpai had been running the operation from. It did not seem all that defensible or impressive but then again, he didn’t care much for large buildings. Just more structure to burn down when the time came to crush your enemies.

He stroked his trimmed beard as he sat astride his stalwart companion, Bashiru, she did not seem impressed either but then again when did she ever seem impressed. He patted her neck and said, “No wonder I could not find this place, eh sayedda?”

“I’ve shat out bigger things than this hut, but it will do,” he said gruffly. He dismounted and made sure to secure the horse before taking a look around at the Unicorn Embassy.

The first person he would meet was a Unicorn! Sort of. The name was what counted right?

It was a somber day after the mass deaths yesterday, and the siege outside. Akemi had wanted to pray at the temple, but learnt last evening that it was on the other side of the wall! She had woken up in the morning unsure as to what to do about that, and after leaving in the morning she had returned to sit in the common room with some tea writing some ideas down. She heard a voice and peered up, looking surprised at the man who was there!

"Moto..." damnit, how do you say his name again? "....sama? I wasn't aware you were in the city." She rose and bowed to the man.

While the girl looked very much Crane in outfit and appearance, Batzurig was likely to at least know of the girl who had been teaching the Rokugani way to the children of the Unicorn.

The large Moto shrugged and said, “Sayedda, how long has this been here, you can’t even move it.”

He frowned and stroked his beard briefly and then said, “Oh, you’re one of them, you come from big bird house. Heron? Goose? Goose clan? Too pretty by half, had a half mind to throw you over me horse as spoils,” he said with a laugh and then added, “I missed some good fighting protecting some of our elders, real good fighting.”

He produced some jerky and tore into it and added, “Sayyed Baatar better have some kumis around here, my stores are not so full. My thirst is not so kind.”

Being the curious man he was, Monkhbaatar had taken Meushi for a walk down friendship street to see what the other embassies looked like. When he happened upon a group of Unicorn he wondered if they were setting up an embassy of their own. And he had to admit he missed the openness of his former clansmen, so he wandered up to the group.

He was dressed in Crane colors, and had the Doji mon, but his horse and manner immediately gave him away as a former Unicorn. It had to be easy to spot the differences to others. It was relatively easy for him.

"Good morning," he says with a wave while he approached.

"Did the Geese eat you up and spit you out, Sayyed,” he said in greeting extending a hand to the blue colored Unicorn.

“Or did you two switch clothes to trick the Gods of Death so they know not who is who? The gods cannot be tricked for long, it is known. Moto Batzurig,” he said glancing at Akemi, and then introduced his horse, “and that is Bashiru, queen of the sands, at least in her mind.”

The horse snorted imperiously.

Oh no...

"Moto-sama...ano...Sidi Moto?" Akemi checked to make sure it was the right weird foreign suffix, moving to the man and knowing she had to at least meet him halfway with all this. So, she offered him her hand in the traditional Moto/Unicorn greeting.

"Welcome to the city. The siege started yesterday, the walls have been defended so far but there was an unsuccessful attempt to defeat the commander. Also, I've been thrown over a horse before, please don't do it. It's quite uncomfortable and my husband would not approve" she did smile though, showing she didn't take it seriously "and it's Crane, if you refer to my ex clan, however that is the past and now I am Moto as you know. Moto Akemi. As for...supplies, I don't believe there is much stock of traditional Unicorn foods here. The rest of the Empire would not have such things after all."

The Doji with the long name received a smile and a bow.

"Good morning Doji-san. I hope you are well? What brings you to the Unicorn embassy, do you need my assistance again?"

Monkhbaatar clasped the Moto's hand in the traditional greeting. "Doji Monkhbaatar. And she is Meushi." He smiles at Akemi, "And I am well."

"No, I married into the Crane, but the day I heard there was fighting and the Emperor had been murdered, I rode out to fight for the Empire." He felt so much more comfortable speaking more openly.

"Did you come here for the war as well Batzurig? Or have you been in the city for a while?"

"Crane,” he muttered once again trying to commit the name to memory. “Thank you, I knew it was big bird... not so big but big enough. We will have to get supplies, before long people will be eating cats like they are goats.”

He frowned and stroked his beard in thought as he listened.

"Some of our eldest wanted to travel and I have been escorting them, was here before the fighting but now that the situation has changed I see no reason to not enjoy a little fighting and see what these other clans call warfare,” he replied.

"Well, this isn't exactly going to be run of the mill fighting. The enemy has thrown otherworldly beasts and crazy animals at us," he says with a chuckle.

"Inside the city it's too crowded and narrow to make effective use of horse archers and they haven't taken an offensive stance yet since the walls have held thus far."

"Please, Moto-san. This is not a time for such things. I understand that the Rokugani way is strange but it is one we need to accept. Compromise, ne?" Akemi frowned slightly "and...well..." she trailed off a little, looking at Monkhbaatar for some support.

The Moto bushi shrugged at the woman's words but did not press them and just listened for now to both of them.

Monkhbaatar felt a little bad for Akemi, but finally talking to a Moto once again was kind of like a breath of fresh air for him.

"They don't eat goat here. There's a good chance there aren't even any goats in the city. But since the Unicorn don't have an established embassy here, you likely will be shorter on supplies than the other clans," he says with a nod.

"With enough riders, perhaps we can go scout for the city. I haven't run into Moto Bataar yet, but I know he's here in the city. I saw him talking to a herald."

The suggestion came with the opportunity for one other thing that scouts did when in the field... hunting fresh game. He didn't know what was local, but there was likely something big enough.

"Forgive me, I am not experienced in battle, but scouting during a siege when it is difficult to enter and leave a city is not something we can do? The governor is refusing to meet with anyone from my understanding, and we would need her permission" Akemi tried not to sigh, but she felt like the only sane one in the room.

"The siege will break eventually," Monkhbaatar replies. "We can't do so right now, but the defenders will eventually need scouts."

"Hai, I remember how useful they were during the War of Broken Fangs" Akemi nodded "for now I believe we should concern ourselves with the enemy at the doorstep, ne? Speaking of that, how did Moto-san even get in?" She looked at the much larger Unicorn curiously

"I was already here before this all went down, just not here, here," he said gesturing to the small embassy.

"Well, the city is chaotic. It's not a wonder that we don't know who is here or where they are. But at least we know where the enemy is," he says with a nod.

"My apology then, Sidi Bahzuling" Akemi bowed in apology before looking to Monkhbaatar "I hope so, although I found myself attacked while bathing yesterday so I worry that some are within the walls as well."

"Really? Well, it's difficult to tell the enemy apart from everyone else. And even at court some have spoken in support of them. It's no guarantee that some in the city won't change loyalties. While he may have killed the Emperor, some may have a misguided loyalty to the Steel Chrysanthemum since he was formerly the emperor."
