Aya shrugged.

"You can ask, but you know how it is. Coded message left in your quarters. Very hush hush kind of stuff." she says.

Spotting a small inn and getting tired of walking while seeming to go nowhere, Aya led the pair within.

Once there she ordered a traditional breakfast for the both of them, seemingly uncaring if that's what Chen actually wanted. Once the rice arrived, she set the paper she had been waving about down to break apart her chopsticks.

Chen didn't protest as Aya took the initiative to lead them into a place and even order for him though as the servant left he did have a rather amused smirk on his lips.

His eyes didn't go to the paper but he was aware of it and while it seemed a rather obvious set up he would be remiss if he didn't take the chance.

His hand darted out subtly to grab the paper before Aya would even notice.

He looked at the paper to see what, if any, orders were on it "I figure we could start discussing why you are testing me so, I don't believe for a second some mysterious high ranking scorpion tasked a yogo with evaluating a bushi."

"Oh and here I was think Degarashi-san and I were beginning to become friends." He joked as he set the paper back down on the table.

"And because last I checked yoriki are assistants to magistrates and they investigate crimes not evaluate samurai for their fitness. So you will be traveling with Soshi-sama?"

"I'm a woman of many talents. Yoriki, monster hunter, tester of chen-san's patience." she counters. "I think I do each of them quite well."

He leaned back in his chair a little a smirk playing across his lips "yes you have proven proficient in at least one of those areas since I've met you. I wonder what other secret talents you've been hiding from me Aya-san." He said with only a touch of mischief in his words.

Aya plucked up a bit of the dried fish served with the meal.

"I wouldn't be much of a Scorpion if I had no secrets, now would I?" she teased back. "I'm sure you're just filled with hidden depths yourself."

Chen smirked raising his cup to his mouth "Oh probably more than you even suspect." He says right before he sips his tea and takes a small bite of rice.

"So since there were no evaluations, at least none on this paper here. I'm led to believe you simply wished the pleasure of my company this fine morning is that right Aya-san?" He said with a small smile.

Aya chuckles.

"Or perhaps you've simply failed to properly decode the message." she offered over a sip of tea.

She smiles a bit.

"Or you could be projecting your own desires perhaps? A hurled rock is not usually met with an invitation to breakfast. The tea here IS nice though."

"Nor is it usually a preamble to accepting such an invitation. Perhaps you have the flirting skills of a young child Aya-chan" he said in a teasingly sweet voice "you hurl rocks and pull hair because you don't know how else to express your tender feelings." He said with a chuckle.

Chen was nearly subjected to the second ranged attack from Aya that morning as she nearly spit out her tea by laughing.

She wiped away a tear from her eye.

"Geez, Chen-san, not while I'm drinking." she said, her voice catching a little from the near incident. She set the cup down.

"Putting aside the unlikely matter of a Yogo flirting with you Chen-san, I'd really love to hear what you think is so desireable about yourself that I would do such a thing." she goaded.

She leaned bakc a bit.

"No really, I really want to know. Propiety be damned, tell me all about the wonders of Chen-san."

chen shrugged his shoulders "I do not claim to understand the way another's mind works. What draws someone to anyone? You could find me sweet to look upon, I am nothing special in my own eyes but I am more fair than some, perhaps it is my mystery that draws you in, making me a puzzle to figure out. Perhaps my wit and my charm, or you find my bumbling act to be endearing. Maybe you heard me play my samisen and were enraptured by it. Honestly the number of possible reasons are mind boggling but at the end of the day I can no more tell you why you or anyone else finds someone attractive more than I can tell you why the wind chose to blow a certain direction."

"Oh, that's right, you play the shamisen." she said. "The events of that night are a little blurry, but you were playing at the start, right? What was that song?"

Chen nodded "Yes indeed, I was playing before you all showed up and then started to again when the conversation veered to places where I had nothing to contribute."

To her second question he shrugged a little "It was just a song I picked up during my travels. Honestly couldn't tell you the name."
