In the morning, four Lion guards arrive with the sun to stand outside of the Crane Embassy in full armor.

Kakita Airi strides out of the Embassy, head held high, dressed in her best blue and white robes. She pays no mind to the Lion samurai as she leaves.

"Halt! No Crane may pass this point. The embassy is officially on lockdown."

The guards immediately move to intercept her.

Airi turns to face the two Lion and snaps open her fan. "You have no legal right to control access to the Crane Embassy. It is an Embassy, and one entirely under the purview of the Crane Clan."

The main guard looks very uncomfortable.

"My lady, we must do our duty. But the governor was clear that we only bar access to those wearing Crane colors. We can let you by if you are not dressed as you are."

He looks to his fellow guards.

"Please. We cannot let you pass otherwise."

Her fan flaps as she looks between the four guards. For a moment, it looks as if she will back down, but then she straightens herself and sets her jaw. "I do not take orders from a Lion. I am traveling to the court to speak with the Governor and protest this short-sighted course of action she has decided upon."

She snaps her fan closed and takes a deep breath. "I am not your enemy, but I will not bow my head to injustice." After a moment of hesitation, Airi steps forward, continuing on her way to the castle.

One of the guards shouts "don't do this!" but it is too late.

The main guard draws his sword and cuts cleanly through her back, dropping her to the ground. With another swing of his katana, she is dead.

Kakita Airi's body falls to the ground, blood pooling out from her corpse quickly.

Hearing the kerfuffle Daidoji Tetsuko comes storming out of the Embassy to find...

"No."

Her normally pleasant expression disappears. Her hand drops to the hilt of her sword as she locks her eyes on the Lion with the bloodied sword.

"You. Face me."

"Go back inside the embassy. There is no need for this to get worse."

The one who speaks still has blood dripping off his blade.

"I will not, murderer." Tetsuko stretched out the muscles in her neck and settled into her stance. "Let us see how you fare against Daidoji steel."

Her eyes softened as she tracked the movements of the four Ikoma, focusing on their apparent leader.

The begin to move so they are in a semi-circle around you, swords drawn.

Kashiwagi was on his way to the Blue Tiled Room to do research and saw the Lion samurai facing off against a Crane and said calmly, “What is the meaning of this?”

“What has transpired here!”

Koushi's intent that morning had been to serve out his oath to Shimizu Kendo. He was clad in his armor, a white armband gleamed from his left shoulder, his death poem tucked inside. Instead, he was confronted with...this. He ignored the Phoenix.

He moved to support his cousin, saying in a clear voice. "So much for the honor of the Matsu," as he drew his sword.

She looked at the leader and raised her voice. "I challenge you, you coward! Or can you only murder unarmed courtiers from behind? So much for the honour of the Lion Clan."

Tetsuko stood her ground. "If I die I die. If I win your men allow me to deliver Kakita-san's message."

Suddenly it was busy. She kept her focus on the Lion for now.

"This is not your concern, Phoenix." The speaker doesn't take his eyes off the Daidoji. "The Crane are to be confined to their embassy, as per the orders of the governor. We cut down a criminal who did not follow the law."

Two of the four guards look visibly shaken. This was not supposed to have happened. The speaker, however, only grows more confident as he speaks.

"My duty does not allow me to accept challenges. But try to leave this place and we shall have no choice but to act."

"You do realize who I am, and what Office I represent, I have served with some of the best of the Lion," he said calmly.

"Name yourself, Lion, so I may bring this butchery to the Governor when next I meet her."

"You murdered an ambassador on a diplomatic mission. And you personally are a spineless coward as all can see." Her eyes did not leave the Lion. "I am taking her message to the Governor. You are welcome to try to stop me."

She nodded towards Kashiwagi, glad he was here to witness this insanity, but this was not his fight.

Kashiwagi raised a hand hoping for the Crane to not yet try her luck, there had to be a way to end this without further violence.

"The Crane are wounded but we should not have more blood spilled," he said to the woman.
