Day 12 [Early Night] Forging A Partnership (Ryuji's Room)

Otomo Ryuji normally would not entertain a late guest but he made special case for this one. Rice, salmon sushi, pear, and wine were on the table. Candles and incense were lit. Ryuji eagerly awaited his guest.

Mei made her to the way from the castle from the Crane Embassy slowly. She was dressed in a beautiful blue kimono with strategic slits on her thighs, and a deep, low gash on her chest showing off her moderate cleavage well. She smelled faintly of honey and ginger, and she had on light, but well done makeup.

Arriving at Ryuji's quarters, she scratched at his door.

Ryuji slid the door open.

I generally don't care for fortunes but...indeed the fortunes are good!

"Konbanwa, Miya-san." Ryuji greeted softly. "Please come in."

He looked around to see if anyone else was in the hallway and after seeing no one, shut the door.

He looked at her, his eyes surveying every form of her being.

Mei smiled at Ryuji and bowed her head as she glided into his room. It was a movement of perfect grace, as if she was simply floating on the air instead of walking. Her Crane training had been taken well to heart.

"That you for receiving me, Otomo-sama"

"Yes...please make yourself comfortable." he replied as he walked to the table and sat upon a cushion.

"You have a most lovely fragrance. Quite becoming on you. I trust your day was productive?"

Mei sits with her legs beside her, leaning on one hand. The position allows her kimono to fall along its slit, revealing her smooth, pale skin beneath.

"It was, to a point. I was able to have a meeting with a few turtles and offer them patronage in exchange for tasks conducted, and during the evening I put down many who were left behind from the usurpers army. What of yourself?"

She looks over Ryuji, taking him in. Her eyes sparkling.

"I met with one at the bath's earlier. A nice fellow. We'll be discussing more as time goes on." Ryuji poured her some wine first then himself.

"I also had the opportunity to have a brief chat with Seppun-sama. I think things are well now. May I prepare your plate?"

Mei motions with her hand and a slight bow.

"I would be delighted."

She takes up the wine and smells it, closing her eyes and smiling at the aroma.

"Mmm, it has been some time since I have indulged. "

"I am glad you were able to mend the wound, though I still do not trust her, Otomo-sama. I have heard rumors that the Honor Guard at Morikage Toshi were the first to turn against the Emperor, and her devotion to Seppun Kato is quite concerning."

“It is. Deeply concerning. It could elude to something deeper and if that is the case that would be most unfortunate.”

Ryuji raised his cup to Mei.

“Kampai.” he said softly, meeting her eyes.

"She seems to pure of heart to truthfully be malicious, but...she definitely warrants observation."

Mei raises her glass in return and takes a small sip, letting it sit on her tongue for some time before swallowing.

"Mmm. Delicious."

"That maybe something I could do. She could be a bit biased in her methods and as such she could be a danger to herself and others...I am glad you enjoy the wine. Friendly Traveler Blend. The Yasuki know their wine and sake. Would you like a bit more?"

Mei shifts her position slightly, her languid motions smooth and graceful. she leans more on her right hand, supporting her weight, and places her left on her hip.

"Tell me about yourself, Otomo-sama? I find myself becoming very intrigued by you."

"What is there to tell? I am the eldest of three children. My mother an Ikoma trained Matsu married into the Imperial Families My father was a bit of a pompous, bully courtier. Sister passed away during the war with the Naga. Youngest brother serves as a devoted Seppun shugenja."

A sip of wine.

"I am a student of the courts and a student of law. I have served as a special investigator for some magistrates... Like I said, not much to tell. I would very much like to know about..." Ryuji looked over Mei again "you Miya-san."

Mei listens and indulges in a sip as well.

"When I was young I was given to the Crane to fulfill and obligation. Thus, I was taken from the Imperial City and raised at Kyuden Kakita. I showed an aptitude for speed, and thus trained in the Kakita bushi school. After gempukku, about five years ago, I then went back to the Capitol and began guarding and acting as a yojimbo for various persons of the court."

"About three years ago, my entire family was slain by an assassin, and I nearly perished as well until an insight came to me about a cure I must have read at some point to the poison that left my body wracked with weakness and decay."

"When the Unicorn returned, I was tasked to attend one of their miai, to solidify a union between the Imperial Families and the clan. Unfortuntely, my manners and skills did not match their nadoka's desires and was sent back to the city without a betrothal. Finding that to be unacceptable, I was then relegated to being a yojimbo for those the Families would rather have disappear. It was in-glamorous and quite frankly a waste of my talent."

"Doji Suiminko recognized this, and about six months ago, she brought me on as a personal retainer and member of her household guard."

Ryuji listened intently.

"Hmm.. You were at Dark Edge for the Miai? So you may have met a Scorpion associate of mine. Bayushi Suteichi?"

"The name seems familiar, but I cannot place a face. Truth be told, much of the Miai I had my own agenda I was working on, and thus spent most of my spare time with members of the Unicorn."

Ryuji drank some more wine.

"I am glad that you left Dark Edge a single woman."

"As am I, though I do sometimes wonder if some of my talents would have been better used as a whisper in the ears of the Unicorn."

She drinks some more wine.

"Having an entire clan, newborns to the way of the empire, would have been quite the win for our Families. Imagine the things I could have taught them without it being warped by the many...poor...views of the rest of the clans."

"I wonder, what does fate have in store for us that we were brought together?"
