Homura, in her armour and with her weapons, had remained with her Lion kin to ensure that guests were being escorted out. She knew her position at this point was 'watch and protect' which is something she could do mostly well, but it wasn't half boring...

She was happy to have kept hold of her umbrella though! The weather was awful.

Now the people were moving, Homura was walking as well. It was dark out, and she would rather have been back at Toshi no Omoidoso, but she trusted in the Daimyo. She was secretly also thankful not to be part of the core left behind, it seemed like suicide to her.

Seitouna is among those departing, of course. And, seeing the armed Lion, he makes sure he is decidedly polite, bowing as he perhaps makes eye contact.

It is dark, after all, even with lanterns in some folks' hands.

The bow seems easy, despite the ditty bag slung across a shoulder.

The Phoenix hero was on the move showing his face and looking optimistic despite the situation.

Erina has a hand on her bow, the cats prowling behind her.

"How is the supply train looking Homura-san? We had to make do with what we could."

"Cold and wet."

Homura kept a deadpan expression.

"However mostly secured. The enemy has taken enough of a hit that they likely won't attack again tonight, so we have taken the opportunity. I'm no expert on battle, but even I know we'd have liked more than a few hours to prepare."

She looked over at Erina with a smile.

"I'm glad all three of you survived the battle unscathed. I knew you would, but I'm still glad to have it confirmed."

Seitouna, seeing the others occupied with each other, turns his attentions to such peasants as are still present, thinking to help move them along and keep their morale up.

It seems to be somewhat effective (Courtier 25, would be the same with Etiquette).

"I was put into the reserves." The disgust at being completely undamaged was that of only the young and untouched could be, "I suppose in retrospect my wild guess that there were more enemies coming technically right that...just in a way that was completely useless. It took me well out of any real fighting."

Homura may get the idea that the Matsu is...pouting.

"But getting panicking animals moving is my specialty now...and getting ox and horses prepared wasn't too hard either."

"Consider this Erina-san; if we focused on fighting at the main gate without any cover elsewhere and missed the enemy using dishonourable tactics to sneak around, they could have caused serious injury to many important guests we have here. We would have won the battle yet failed to protect those who cannot protect themselves."

Homura gave the woman a smile.

"Do not think yourself lesser for not being at the front. You're not. 'The dragonfly's buzz is no different from the lion's roar. All creatures have a voice with which they express the Way. So it is with us."

Seitouna, satisfied that he has helped, notes with some interest the conversation going on.

Sounds like a Lion quoting the Tao, he thinks, though he says nothing. These truly are strange times.

"Yeah, but the Lion's roar is what I supposed to be." Ore bounds up, resting his front paws on Erina's shoulder and he begs to the scratched. "At at least let these ones at it"

"You are, Erina-san" Homura shook her head "you don't need to be charging through the front gates to be that. I'm certain you will have your moment to shine. I was up on the walls rather than fighting you know. Assigned a bow despite only learning how to use if a few hours prior."

"You beat me to that too, huh?" The words are harsh, but there is a small smile on Erina's lips as she gestures to the bow in her own hand. "You're a multitalented samurai Homura-san...not that I didn't know that already." The smile broadens at that last part.

"I met the Seppun princess earlier. I see why you like her."

Stumping along, using his staff for balance, was Hachi. After his triumph this morning, he was now fleeing the city with the rest.

Sadly, no matter his power, he didn't see how calling an earthquake in the city proper would help the situation.

So, he walked.

He was not listening so he didn't hear this and didn't roll his eyes at the implication.

"If I didn't take to the walls after the guidance of Matsu Mogami-sama, then I would be a poor samurai. Thankfully I demonstrated the brilliance of Matsu-samas training as well as my natural affinity to learn a new weapon quickly" Homura smirked "I do have many skills, ne? But so does Erina-san and her very lovely companions."

She looked at the two big cats as the Seppun princess was brought up.

"Oh? She is a shining example of the Imperial families, ne? Where did you meet her?"

Oh joy, another march in the cold, this time wetter. Aya scoffed at the people who styled support of the Steel Chrysanthemum as traditionalists. Real traditionalists knew that summar was the time for war marches.

She wondered how many aged courtiers would find this to be their last walk.

(pm if approached)

"Keep it moving, keep it calm," Asakuro said in ushering along a group of peasants to pick up the pace, though with little emotion to his voice and his call a bit half-hearted - he had been doing this sort of thing throughout the day, early in the morning to get all of the peasantry account for and divided up, and now here he was all the way in the middle of night encouraging similar good behavior, only now he walked along with them, lacking sleep, with a hastily-packed traveling pack slung behind him and his usual traveling cloak and straw hat protecting him from the elements and the cold in the darkness.

At least he was not alone in this task, for from a short distance he witnessed Seitouna doing the same. Once the small peasant group before him had picked up an agreeable pace, he slid over to his fellow Tortoise, offering him a short nod as he too kept pace with those marching onward. "How does one fare in this twilight hour, dear cousin?"

"She asked me to be a "rider" to escort the first group of refugees to the docks...of course, that was before we knew that there were no docks. We might even catch up with them. Oh, that's a story..."

Erina smiles gently. "We realized that there was no way to defend both the city and the convoy, so after Moto-san found a route, Seppun-sama directed us back to the city to defend it. Togashi-san, one of the Dragon, refused, insisting on traveling with the heimen. Seppun-sama challenged her to a duel over it..."

Erina shook her head a little. "She's headstrong and brash, but I like the fire. I can feel her passion, and I'm not usually one to notice things like that. The Crane and Magistrate managed to talk her down...but I am not sure that they should have. This Dragon-Lion alliance I have heard about not withstanding. How did that come about again? I must have missed something."

"Ah, cousin! Better than some, not as well as others, but such is life, of course."

He grins a bit. It may be hard to see.

He drops his voice, shifts intonation. I've not had any reliable report on Kasuga Saito, more's the pity. Some mentioned knowing the name, seeing the face, but I couldn't trace anything firmer on it.

Having bee granted permission, Mogami and her budoka gather with the traveling horde, outfitted in their armor with their bows in their off hands, ready to protect those who can not. On her back, Mogami's sashimono waves in the wind of the chill night, but is also accompanied by quiver stuffed to the brim with arrows, as well as a rather large pack.

Her budoka look much the same as Mogami, minus the command banner. Backpacks stuffed to nearly bursting, two rolled up tents, and quivers full.
