Scene theme...

Kashiwagi sat outside bundled up with his paints as he tried to paint the itsu daimyo from memory. His strokes were not elegant but he worked hard and in time the piece came together to match her determination and a hint of sadness at her fate. He was pleased with the outcome, it was amateur work in his eyes but it captured what he set out to do as he considered the garden and wondered what the day would bring…

He knew there would be blood.

If all were to die soon then let none say that a Crane had failed to find time for art.

Tetsuko had received the request with a little confusion, but on reflection well of course a Phoenix artist would look to the Crane for a muse. With her best kimono and her daisho she was ready for anything. Except perhaps the Empire's best known War Hero...

"Asako Kashiwagi-sama, it is an honour to meet you. This one is Daidoji Tetsuko." She bowed deeply. He was shorter than she had imagined.

"Ahh, Doji-san, I was unsure if the Crane would answer my humble summons," he replied casually.

"I pray you have had your rice this day?"

"Hai, Asako-sama." She moved closer. "Daidoji Tetsuko, although I am flattered that you would count me among the ranks of the Doji. Of course the Crane are honoured to aid a hero of the Empire."

His eyes were unexpectedly blue.

Daidoji… of course, he considered as he finally looked at her and then said, “Please be at ease then, I have only water to offer, but the garden is beautiful even in the midst of this chill. The children of Doji all share her effortless grace and beauty, it can be difficult to tell one from another.”

“It is a pleasure, Daidoji-san,” he finished.

"You are most kind Asako-sama, thank you." She relaxed into an easy stance. "Yes, I have taken to running in the gardens of a morning. It is quite bracing and always beautiful."

Her eyes sought the place where she had encountered the the Naga a few days earlier. "Art before the storm. What did you have in mind for you composition?" Usially it was her charges who were being asked to pose for paintings, although it did mean that Tetsuko had plenty of experience.

"Something simple, and intimate, maybe just seated on a bench with an air of sophistication?" he replied.

"Are you an artist, Daidoji-san?"

OOC: Assume we are under an overhang to stay dry lol, due to the rain.

"Why that sounds delightful Asako-sama." She smiled the sort of smile that Chidori might use as inspiration for one of her books.

"I favour origami. I also sing, to the extent that may be considered an art form." She looked off thoughtfully into the gardens at the cold rain. All Crane had a little artistic talent, to be considered worthy of their name. Casually she removed her hat and straw cloak and placed them out of the way.

"Origami has fascinated me, but I don't have the patience for the folding," he admitted.

She gave a nod of understanding. "We Daidoji are often called upon to act as yojimbo, chaperones and so on. Origami is a perfect pursuit for such times. It is quiet and subtle, requires patience and dexterity, and can be easily gifted."

She moved over to one of the benches. "Perhaps here Asako-sama?"

"That is ideal, I think it is more that I get annoyed when my folds are not... crisp and then I refold, and refold... and then soon I just have kindling, when my annoyance rises," he joked.

"Are there many Crane in the city?"

She laughed at the joke. "Then perhaps I shall teach you how to fold an origami Phoenix, Asako-sama." An eyebrow was raised momentarily before she took a seat upon the bench. Her eyes gazed out over the rainy gardens.

"Direct me as you wish." She imagined a court full of incredulous Doji courtiers all wanting to be the subject of a hero's art. "Only a few of us Asako-sama. As this is a relatively new Lion court we have only a small delegation."

"So you were here and not at Winter court?" he asked. The hero started looking at his canvass getting his framing right and once he was satisfied with her position he started painting and listening to her.

OOC: It will look nice, wee.

She kept still and poised as she replied, though there was a subtle change in her voice. "Indeed Asako-sama, but... In fact I was told by my Lord that I would be attending Winter Court. I was supposed to be meeting one Hiruma Katree-sama as a potential match." Her thoughts turned inward for a moment. "However my invitation did not arrive."

OOC: Huzzah!

Kashiwagi said, "Congratulations to you and your betrothed, I hope they survived the incident at Court."

"Thank you Asako-sama, as do I. I was told that he joined Doji-dono in fighting to hold-off the spirit forces." A smile crossed her lips. "So I at least know that he is, or was, a hero."

"Well perhaps he will turn up here soon or maybe they fled elsewhere," he said with optimism.

"Let us hope he survives before we light his lantern prematurely."

"Hai. It is my hope that they drew off the enemy forces and escaped to regroup elsewhere. Perhaps they will join us here?" The Hiruma were experts at working behind enemy lines after all.
