Bayushi Degarashi had been many things during the course of his training as a Butei, but the center of a large crowd had never been one of them. There was no guarantee that would change at all today, but Uruwashii's words had struck home the importance that this performance might have to some, and if that chance existed, then Degarashi would perform.

The stage he'd acquired was nothing to write home about, though he had been able to dress it up a little for the sake of appearances. Occupying a tiny rectangle of space among the streets, the small stage extended barely a few feet to either side of the small pillow where Degarashi would be seated as he recited his lines, but that was almost perfect. Rakugo sought to embellish the singular performer, and the smaller stage would help to amplify both his image and his voice, allowing it to carry further than usual. He was quite satisfied with the final result.

With some time still left before the performance, Degarashi began to pace the ground around the stage, lightly tapping his palm with the fan he would use and reciting his lines so he would be less likely to forget them. Soon, however, Yukarin-sama would arrive and begin to set up her refreshments, and the performance would be near to beginning.

Beside the stage was an umbrella, with a note addressed to Yukarin requesting that she try to return it to its owner, should Seppun Horonigai attend the show.

((You may post your arrival in the thread if you like, but the performance will not begin until after Yasuki Yukarin has posted and set up the area around the stage. Degarashi himself will not interact much in this thread, as he will be focused on his lines.

Once the performance begins, each story will comprise a single post. Degarashi will act out his roles, and then refrain from posting for a time to allow characters to react to each story individually before he continues.

After the performance is over, Degarashi will converse as normal with anyone wishing to speak with him.))

After her preparations were done, Chihaya visited - a show.

A bit of culture.

A reminder of why she fought.

Dressed in her armor, kabuto under one arm, she took up a place in the crowd, finding a comfortable enough wooden crate to perch upon, resting her kabuto on her knee.

The storm was coming... in more ways than one. Under an overhang, she waited for the show to begin, grateful for a brief shelter from rain.

Things were chaotic that morning, but Yukarin had managed to finish getting things set up. A basic stage had been set up in a courtyard of the city thanks to Yukarin buying some wood and other basic materials, as well as hiring some of the many layabout laborers to help put it all together.

A low, ten meter wide wide low wooden platform, a canvas back with a scene of trees and snow painted on it, nothing fancy. On one side of the stage was a smaller two by two meter platform surrounded by curtains. Near the stage, off to one side, Yukarin had set up a borrowed product stand, behind which she was keeping samples of sake and small cups of salted walnuts. There were enough cups for hundreds, but she hoped things didn't go poorly.

Mixed in with the crowd was the Shosuro daimyo, a small bubble of open space that her yojimbo seemed intent on maintaining. She held an umbrella of dark crimson to shelter her from the rain, as well as wooden geta to ensure that her kimono did not trail in the frozen mud at her feet.

Confident in his rehearsal, Degarashi finally makes his way onto the meager stage, settling himself onto the pillow at the center and assuming a seiza posture. Before him sat a simple cloth and courtier's fan, the only props he would use throughout his production. Degarashi closed his eyes, breathing, calming, drowning the outside world until all that remained was him and the stage.

"People of Toshi no Omoidosu, today I provide you with a rare gift; a performance unique to the Shosuro Butei, not often seen outside the lands of the Scorpion!" He lifted his hands, spreading them out before him. "I invite you all to observe a craft passed down among my peers, my teachers, and those that came before them! Today I give you the art known as rakugo!"

He bowed low, as if in prayer, hands placed upon the stage before him, silent. When he rose, his eyes gazed out beyond the stage, into some distant place known only to him.

((The performance is about to begin! Degarashi will wait to allow posts once more before proceeding with the first of his stories.))

And of course Nagiko was there. How will she miss the rakugo performance of Bayushi-san. She was invited to it.

Nagiko is wearing armor though, with the mantis mon proudly on her back. Her daisho ready and without any peace-binding.

There was the probability of a siege so she must be ready for any conflict at any moment.

Kasuga Asakuro found an empty spot on the right side of the crowd and perched himself down upon one of the makeshift seats. A spot of culture during what had otherwise been a bit of a drab couple days was just what he needed right now! He was just in time too, for no sooner did he get comfortable in his seat that the Scorpion prepared his position upon the stage. After the man's announcement, the Tortoise nodded to himself.

Rakugo... interesting choice! This should be most entertaining... he thought, his fan of colorful dancing eels fluttering slightly in his hand as he settled in for the start of the performance.

Sara was of course there, bundled up against the cold and holding an umbrella, but she was still there to support her kinsmen in such an occasion.

Dressed once more in his raingear, Touki was there to watch the performance. Water ran down him, and his expression was bland... but perhaps somewhat cheerful.

Remembering that it was rainy and cold, Yukarin made sure to keep the sake warm under her awning.

The Mantis warrior would find the rain suddenly stop as a woman stood next to her. Homura gave the girl a smile and a bow from under the yellow umbrella over them.

"Wouldn't do good to get ill with battle on the horizon Nagiko-san."

The Lioness was in her amour, her daisho ready as well as a very large sword on her back.

After the dreary march in the rain, Moto Baatar was in need of something to lift his spirits. As he slowly walked back to his quarters, he stumbled across the Bayushi's temporary stage.

"What's this?" Baatar asked the nearest person as he stopped to gape at the performers on the stage. "Is this some kind of show?"

'' Oh '' Nagiko turned to look at the lioness. '' Arigato, Ikoma-san.'' She smiled to her. '' Indeed,it would not do good to get ill at the eve of battle.''

'' It has been a while Ikoma-san. I hope Inari-no-kami has blessed you today?'' She bowed to Homura.

Setsuna knew of the play, of course, but did not know that Touki would be there. So much commotion... it was difficult to really have their fated duel.

So when they saw their most-audacious rival, how could the Bayushi resist?

"Psst," Setsuna hissed at Touki from behind. Sure, they were doing their best to not cause a ruckus during a Scorpion play, but... there was glory at stake here. "We shall see who is the best in front of these onlookers."

Chihaya was comfortable enough, though the performance was screened off a little by water, she could still see reasonably well.

She'd encouraged the man, so she might as well see what he ended up demonstrating.

The Tortoise leaned over a bit towards the man asking the question, turned his head to face him and nodded slightly.

"Hai, samurai-san, a show indeed: one among the Scorpion is about to entertain with a performance in the rakugo style. If you wish to watch, you should find a seat soon for he appears about ready to start."

"It has indeed, and hai Inari-no-kami has blessed me. I'm also glad the tea this morning was very warm, as it's been a very cold day" Homura chuckled "I hope you have been blessed also?"

'' The climate of your lands really doesn't suit what i'm accustomed to, neh...'' She giggled as she takes out her fan. '' But yes, i have been blessed today as well, thanks for asking.''

Nagiko observes the lioness. '' I guess this could be our last theatrical performance until we go into battle.'' She commented casually. '' Have you ever been on the battlefield, Ikoma-san?'' The mantis asked.

Needing a break from the wall, Mogami and her Budoka come to the gathering and take a place somewhere in the back, with an easy route to get back to her post if needed before her break was up. She and her two men ate some of the rations the Governor had given out.

"This should be interesting. The Scorpion are known for excellent actors and actresses. If you have questions about the story, please ask"

She tells Tsuruga and Fuwa
