The city certainly was much more lively than it had been in a month, and not in a good way. Still, more people meant more Crab, so the young Yasuki woman had made it a point to inquire about her Clanmates entering the city, and made sure to send an invite out to each of them.

For now, she made sure to arrive early and rented out a room for all of them. She'd made to order some light snacks (well, light for a Crab) and some sake and tea, and she sat on a cushion with her legs folded to one side.

She'd been drinking throughout much of the day already. Not enough to get sloshed, but enough to maintain that perfect 'buzz' that helped her not think of shit she didn't want to be thinking about. Of course, when the promise of free booze had reached her ears, she was all over it. Oh, and talking to other people who knew how to take monsters and stuff seriously, unlike local kitty-cats, was probably a good idea too... given the state of the rumor mill.

So she showed up, looking every bit the veteran crab with her weapons and her jade and the 'I've seen some *shit*' look in her eyes. Of course, she also had that vibrant red hair and those blue eyes, along with that Dai-Tsuchi... and quite a few people might know who she was from that description. Which totally made sense; she seemed to pop up wherever stuff was going *down*.

"Uh, Ohayo," she said as she walked in, giving a morning greeting despite the hour.

Despite that, she was in a good enough state of mind to make sure to note where all the exits were, just in case.

"Hida Shiko," she said with a light bow of the head.

The giant of a man that follows not long after Shiko is already scuffed up, his knuckles bloodied and scraped from a minor dispute sometime in the recent past. He barely even seems to notice as he hits his head off the doorframe before ducking in with a bit of a dour look on his face.

His bows hastily after a glimpse at the other two, "Hida Goro."

His eyes seem to light up, however, at the sight of the bottles of sake and he takes a seat, dropping his weight to the floor.

"Hida Shiko," she said with a light bow of the head.

"Yasuki Yukarin," the smallish woman said with an energetic little bow of her head.

Even in her short time in the Clan, she had heard things about Shiko.

"An honor to have such a renowned bushi come to this little get together. Please, help yourself to tsukemono, some tempura, tea, or sake."

Yukarin's voice was bright and clear, despite circumstances.

The other she had not heard of. Still, she gave a bow of her head to him and indicated the aforementioned snacks and drinks.

The last to arrive is Yoichi, who pushes the limits of what might even be considered fashionably late. Then he took even more time surrendering his yumi and finding a place for his traveling pack before finally approaching the others, bowing low but quickly, the motion causing him to briefly pop up. "Hiruma Yoichi. I apologize for my tardiness."

She gave a nod to the large man that came in after her, and then another one to Yukarin. "Domo," she added, before taking a seat; and definitely helping herself to some of that sake.

"...ehh, good to know there's some Crab around, 'case things get bad 'round here."

Then came Yoichi, who also received a bow.

The large man attempts to rise to give a bow to the arriving Hiruma but decides against it, giving the best seated bow he can to the man before reaching to pour himself some of the sake.

He drinks the entire cup in a single shot and sets it down. "Hida Goro thinks things have already gotten bad."

"Well," she, paced herself a little more with the drink than Goro did, "Not seeing any oni decapitating people yet, or spirits. So it's not *that* bad."

Yoichi nodded stiffly at Goro's comment, finding a seat for himself and accruing a generous helping of tempura and sake. He took a quick shot of the drink, and his eyes sparkled for a moment. "Ya-haaa! Now that's the good stuff!"

He helped himself to another shot before speaking again. "Things are certainly bad, and likely to get worse. I'm already taking measures to keep watch for further trouble, which is why I was delayed getting here."

"I don't suppose any of you have heard anything from the higher ups about how we're handling this situation, have you? I sent out a letter, but such things take a long time to get anything back of course. Especially over such a long way and all. Was kind of hoping someone from the Imperial Winter Court was going to end up here and take charge."

She shrugged. "Last imperial winter court I was at, someone tried to kill the Son of Heaven too. Didn't get an invite this time though. Would've helped in figuring out exactly *what* is going on, at least."

"Hida Goro hears a spirit attacked the court." He growls at the cup of sake that is, once again, full and in his hand. "That the Hantei was betrayed and killed by cowardice and treachery!" He glares at the cup like it is the very traits he decried and, once again, swallows the liquid within in one mouthful.

He stares at the cup again, "Hida Goro wonders how we can stand for such tricks."

"I've heard nothing official, and it might be a while before we get word back from anyone."

He sighed, running the fingers of one hand through his hair. "Definitely not ideal, Goro-san. We might be forced to choose our own position soon."

"What position's there to take? If everything they say is true, well... dead people are either supposed to stay dead, or come back for glorious heroics in a time of need. Not go around murdering people. Much less emperors."

Yoichi nodded, then paused as he regarded Shiko. "A fair point, Shiko-sama. Were it a simple matter of strength expressed by a duel, I might be inclined to favor the returned Hantei. But bodies that rise from death and murder in cold blood are no stranger to the Crab. Nor is our position towards them."

"Trickery!" the large Crab bellows. He shakes his head and gestures in the direction he believes the returned spirit to be, "How could the Crab support such an action? Hiruma-san is right - this was not a show of strength. How can the Empire be lead by such a person?"

"I do kind of wonder myself. I hear some support him because he was Emperor at one time. As an ancestor, does the Emperor really ever give up the throne? That would make his claim legitimate that he should have been the Emperor as soon as he came back... But it does seem like the actions he undertook undermine his argument. And there is certainly no precedent for such a thing..."

Yukarin shrugs, "This is not the sort of thing I expected to have to think about when we returned to the Empire."

"That kind of talk's for Crane or Scorpion. They love debating the law or philosophy or what not, but when you're facing down monsters who are murdering everyone around you, you don't really stop to think about that stuff. You just do what you need to do, and let someone else worry about that sort of thing later."

She downed her cup too now, before something dawned on her.

"Wait, what do you mean, when we returned to the empire?"

A tiny part of her thought she could be a returned spirit.

"I am curious as to your meaning as well."

Once again Yoichi glanced at Shiko, expression thoughtful. "My apologies, but you seem familiar, though I can't say we've ever met before."

The party don't start 'til she walks in..... But it seemed they'd already started. Maru let a tepid smile cross her features as she entered the rented room, and bowed, clearing her throat for some attention.

"This one is Yasuki Maru, and she apologizes for keeping you waiting." She finds a seat, and takes it, lowering herself to the floor. Smoothing fabrics to get them just so.

"Where were we?"
