(Expecting but open)

It was a downpour, but Touki could not break his routine. It was his day to train, and he would do so. The alternative was to sit inside and brood while not seeing to his duties, and he should not... no, could not do that.

Grimacing, he shrugged aside his cloak and his hat, hanging them near the entrance. They were both sturdy, but even through them, he'd begun to get wet, mostly around his collar, and his legs. Well, perhaps some exercise would warm him again.

His grimace did not fade as, first bowing to pay his respects, Touki moved over to the collection of training weapons, studying them.

For Tsukimi, her preferred dojo was the outdoors, but... ice rain didn't seem too tempting today, even if it was a good exercise in learning to fight in all sorts of conditions. So shielded somewhat from the weather with her straw-cloak and straw-hat, the Dragon warrior arrived at the dojo somewhat dry.

She bowed at the entrance and put her wet belongings aside for storage.

Seeing there were others here this early in the day, she offered a bow to the Lion samurai. "The Heavens are being very enthusiastic today."

Touki turned, his dark eyes widening just a little at the sight of the Dragon bushi, as she unmistakably was. Is it possible that this is...?

He bowed evenly. "Enthusiastic. Quite." He glanced up briefly, even though the roof of the dojo prevented him from seeing the sky. "Or at least energetic." Perhaps it was his native pessimism, but he imagined the Heavens as unhappy, if indeed they were expressing anything.

Another bow. "Togashi-sama." He said, his voice a low monotone. "Welcome to the Kyoki Dojo. This one is Akodo Touki." The words sounded rehearsed, but he looked at her curiously, eyebrows up just a little.

"Well met, Akodo-san. This one is Togashi Tsukimi, a humble member of the Ise Zumi Order, and no one's superior," she offered kindly in return as she moved to inspect the training weapons available.

"I didn't expect to see many others here this morning."

The interested glint in Touki's eyes faded, although his expression remained polite. "Very well, Togashi-san." Touki inclined his head, still respectful.

He frowned thoughtfully. "Nor did I. For myself, training here is part of my established routine, and rain is not enough to dissuade me from it." Although it was cold...

Reaching out, Touki selected a very long practice sword, longer than the typical training bokken. "You also must be determined to hone your skills today, miss." He said, his voice a deep monotone.

"Ah," she smiled briefly, "I believe Akodo One-Eye wrote something about a samurai's routine."

A calloused hand found one of the bokken, and she picked it up to test its weight and balance. "Of course. “While you rest, your enemy practices.” When our enemy rests, we must practice."

"Hmmm." Touki smiled, just a little. "Well quoted, Togashi-san."

Slowly, he stepped out towards the center of the training area, the blade of the long training sword resting across his shoulder as he walked. But then he stopped, looking back. "Ise Zumi Order. You are a monk?" His brows drew down as he studied her, mild confusing evident on his stern features.

"Hmm..." she considered it, or the weapon. Or both. At least she seemed decided on the weapon. "That wouldn't be totally inaccurate, but I don't think being a monk, or a samurai, is the definition of who I am. Am I a warrior? Yes. Am I someone who seeks a greater understanding of the world and the universe? Yes."

Tsukimi gave the bokken a few practiced swings. "One does not exclude the other, no?"

Yeah, she was a monk alright. Touki frowned for a moment as he sorted this out. Fortunately, he spent at least some time considering similar things himself.

"Monk and samurai? For the Lion... well, hmmm." Touki began, thinking of Ren. "Perhaps you are right, miss. They do not exclude the other."

He leveled the long practice blade, letting it drop back to a side position. "I am no monk, but I also seek understanding of the world, in my way. Or, at least, I contemplate it."

A shake of an umbrella, then left at the entrance so as to not wet the dojo floor, Rin made obeisance to the dojo itself before a picture perfect bow to those present.

He then began his own training regime.

"We must all do so in our own way, as the Little Teacher teaches us that following the paths of others does not lead to the same destination," she nodded approvingly of Touki's words and confession.

The arrival of a Kakita earned a pause and a bow. Someone would probably remark that the presence of a Crane, Dragon, and Lion in a dojo was the beginning of a joke.

"Would you like to train together today, Akodo-san?"

Touki turned to the newcomer. "Kakita-sama." He said, bowing, his voice a low monotone. "Welcome to the Kyoki Dojo. This one is Akodo Touki." It really did sound like a set phrase.

He glanced back to Tsukimi. "It would be a pleasure, Togashi-san. What did you have in mind?" He would let her set the terms. In the meantime, he glanced at the Kakita curiously.

"Kakita Rin."

It seemed the Crane had his serious face on today.

"An honor, Kakita-san. This one is Togashi Tsukimi of the Ise Zumi Order."

She glanced between the two samurai. "A round of swords sound fitting, no? Given there is a Kakita here."

Slowly, Touki nodded. "Fitting indeed. However." He bowed. "While I do not shy away from hard practice, I suggest that we take extra care to not cause injury. We need everyone we can muster against the forces arrayed against us."

He glanced back and forth between the two, judging their reactions.

"I've trained with some who prefer to do it in ways that cause less pain and harm to one's partner - such as scoring points by targeting specific points of the body with light taps," Tsukimi suggested helpfully.

"Kakita are taught to strike with the touch of a leaf settling on the waters of a still koi pond, Akodo-sama. The art of the duel is to win without causing unnecessary harm."

Unless it was a shi duel but like those ever happen in these things . . .

Touki considered this. After a few moments, he nodded. "That's a fine idea, miss. Uh, Togashi-san. Very well. And what shall the targets be? Perhaps each shoulder, the side just under the arms, and the outside of the thighs?" Touki frowned briefly. On her, that last should be very distinctive. Well... he would not judge.

He turned to the Kakita, bowing. "We shall do our best to emulate that, sir."

He turned back to Tsukimi, bowing again. "Ready, miss?" He would drop into a stance when she did.

"That sounds acceptable, Akodo-sama," she nodded, taking a deep breath. She could feel the muscles in her chest expand as her lungs filled with a warm air, and a heat soared through her body.

As she entered her stance, there was something... certainly self-taught about it, but it still looked very seasoned and experienced. As if she had learned from many different teachers with different styles, amalgated them into one, and then honed it through years of fighting.

"Ready."

With the Dragon and Lion engaging, Rin moved off to a different part of the dojo to continue his own training.
