Death March [D12, Late Morning]

The camp was in motion, and it didn't take long for the prisoners to overhear rumors that the army had received orders to pack it up and march it out. That left their status in a bit of a limbo, and nobody was coming around to keep them updated.

"Well, this is unexpected," says Tameaki - a bit of a surprise, as until he spoke he was as quiet and still as when he was asleep. "Typical procedure would be to get prisoners out first, either to force them to help break camp or to get them somewhere more visible so the army wouldn't be losing manpower to guard duty. Well, or to publicly execute them as a final show of defiance. Since none of that has happened, perhaps now might be our chance..."

"Unless your wounds have healed dramatically," Tani murmured, "I would keep my plans realistic. At the moment, if we are assessing honestly, I mostly can walk and... not much else."

"That," the magistrate responds as he rests his left hand on his injured right elbow, "I can do something about. Let's see...four of us, and I think I can manage four. Here we go..."

The elemental spirits of water gather around Tameaki's hand and flow into his wounds as he quietly mutters a prayer. Cuts begin to seal and bruises start to fade. He's far from perfectly healthy, but he's definitely looking better. He wasn't kidding - he is, in fact, a shugenja.

"Alright, that's better. Now, who's worst off? I can probably manage one more 'big' trick, and two 'smaller' ones..."

(OOC: Base TN 10 + 5 from Wounds + 6 from Black Scrolls = TN 21. 1 Void spent on spell casting - 27, 6 wounds healed. Now at Nicked 1/6. Stealth (Spell Casting) roll 25.)

Kitamaru had rested enough. "If they are moving, perhaps we should learn something worth telling should we make good on our goals."

Tsukimi was feeling slightly less terrible, even if not particularly well-rested. The Pit of Despair wasn't a pleasant place to sleep in, even if only for one night. 0 out of 5 stars, do not recommend.

Sitting up right once more, she crossed her legs and tried to find her center to perhaps call upon her inner Water to help her body heal, but the pain was still too much to help her find a focus.

"... Tani-sama is still badly hurt, no? What of Shosuro-sama?"

OOC: Tsukimi is still at Injured after rest (+15 Wound penalties). A little healing would help lower her Wound penalties enough to have a chance at activating Ride The Water Dragon to heal herself, without having to spend Void (might need it for our great escape?).

Tani winced as she tried to move, her wounds still clearly bothering her a lot. "Unless the kami are feeling rather generous, I'm not doing much of anything for another day or two, more than likely."

"Well, let's see about that," Tameaki says.

He moves to each one of his fellow prisoners in turn - Tani, then Tsukimi...and then he stops, growing pale and staggering backward as the effects of the Imbalance kick in. Thankfully he's not out of it long - Path to Inner Peace is a relatively simple spell, after all.

Undaunted, and after a glance to Kitamaru confirms that his fellow Scorpion is mostly functional, he tries again to call the soothing water to tend to Tsukimi's wounds...and is promptly sick again.

"No good," he gasps. "I can't manage any more... We'll have to try it as we are, or risk either abandonment or the tender mercies of our captors. I'm not sure which would be worse."

Matsu Tani gets a cast with Void, TN 19. Result 21 - 2 points of healing is not as much as I'd hoped, but I think that does get her down to Injured, so that's a little better. Stealth (Spell Casting) 20. 2/2 Water slots spent. Grumble.

Togashi Tsukimi doesn't get a Void since Tameaki's out of that, and a 13 is precisely 6 less than what I'd need, triggering the Imbalance effect. At least he's sick quietly, with a Stealth roll of 41. 1/2 bonus slots spent.

Tsukimi again...and this time it's a 12. Another 41 on Stealth, though, so at least Tameaki's got that going for him. 2/2 bonus slots spent, so no more Path to Inner Peace today.

She appriciated the effort, even if it didn't go anywhere. It would seem the imbalance had returned after the rain had ended.

"Worry not, Soshi-sama... we'll manage somehow."

Taking a deep breath, Tsukimi remained in her seated position as she strained herself further to activate the power of the Water Dragon. Through great effort, she managed it this time, and she could feel the soothing powers of water flow through her body to alleviate the worst of her pains.

As the pain had eased a little, she tried again to fall into the usual way of calling upon such power, but the imbalance in the elements of this terrible prison didn't help.

"I should be able to walk, but... we must first know if the coast is clear. And make sure it's no trap."

1 Void Point spent to activate Ride the Water Dragon (Tsukimi heals 6 Wounds over 2 rounds). Now at 32 (Hurt, +10 Penalty).

Trying Meditation to activate again: D12 LM trying to activate Ride the Water Dragon again. TN 15 + 10 Wound penalties = TN 25: 5d10o10k3 19 (doesn't seem like this is going to work) xD

He didn't like it. The Dragon and Lion were still in bad shape. One would have to carry the other. All of them were most like to be caught if it came to a run.

The bamboo grating proves to be just a bit too heavy for Kitamaru to lift, though fortunately, his attempt doesn't seem to draw much attention.

"It's going to take more than one of us to lift that thing," suggests Tameaki as he moves to assist.

Only 11 on the unskilled Athletics test to assist, but he's very quiet doing it with a 32.

The Togashi grunted softly as it proved too heavy for the joint effort.

"Did you see if there were any guards? Anyone nearby?"

Tani waited for the moment, not saying anything. The presence of guards was the big question here, and she wasn't in great condition to be trying to exert effort. She'd just attract attention.

With Tameaki's help, they're able to move the grate over just enough to make room for one person to crawl out. All around them, samurai and ashigaru are moving about, packing things and breaking camp.

"You and I can probably make it out without being spotted, but not them," Tameaki whispers to Kitamaru. "I have limited options for creating a diversion that doesn't involve burning everything down..."

Tsukimi wondered if the army was packing up and leaving, if they would bring the prisoners with them... or just leave them here to rot. It could take some time before the allied forces within Nikesake ventured out to potentially look for survivors, so Kassenko's forces could be betting on leaving them to a painful death by thirst and starvation.

... Damnit, why did she think of thirst now. It was a terrible reminder that she was thirsty.

"... Does it look like there is an opening for a possible escape?" she asked. There was no need for everyone to press out of the hole yet if the coast wasn't clear. "We also need a plan to walk through camp, as I don't think it is viable to try to remain out of sight all the way to the city-gates."

Kitamaru looks around for something to use as disguises ao they can attempt to get to the city without harassment from the enemy.
