Having helped stomp some of the enemy the day before, Masahiko decided it was time to get an idea of the scope of their main force. Slinging his ono over his shoulder, he suited up in his armor and mounted the steps to the top of the gatehouse. There, he looked over the parapet at the enemy host and let out a low whistle.

Not far behind, Monkhbaatar had decided to follow along. He has his dai-kyu at the ready, slightly unwieldy as it is.

Masahiko looked back at his companion.

"Take a look, Doji-sama. It seems we have our work cut out for us."

Yukarin was coming up to the walls for her own reasons; Sure she was unarmored and untrained in how to use weapons for the most part, but she needed to see this for herself. Not just sit uselessly in the city waiting for the end.

The big man saluted the Crab courtier from his position further down the wall. Although, once he realized her lack of armor, he waved her closer to their position.

"Yasuki-sama, over here!"

Looking up to see the Kakita from the last night, Yukarin walked over to him and the Doji before bowing deeply, "Doji-sama, Kakita-sama."

She turned briefly to look over the wall before looking back at the two of them, "Up here planning something perhaps?"

The giant returned the bow, then shook his head.

"Not exactly. But after fighting those Tsuno yesterday, I thought I might want to see the enemy. I think Doji-sama had the same idea."

"That we do. But with perseverance and courage, we can take care of this enemy," he says with a nod replying to the earlier question, having gotten lost in measuring up the opposing forces for a moment.

"I did have the same thought. We need to be as prepared as we can be," he states. He nodded at Yukarin. "Been a long time since I've seen you Yasuki-san. How goes life with your husband?"

"I have not had nearly enough time with him, unfortunately. Duty is the lifeblood of a samurai, but sometimes it can mean long periods apart, or so they say. At this point, I just pray I will get the chance to see him again, neh?"

"I pray the same as well. I'll certainly be doing all I can to make those prayers come to pass for both of us," he says.

"I just wish there was something I could do to help."

Turning to the wall, she looks out at the camp and the sight of the grisly trophies that had been put up, her hands tightening.

"But I am helpless, even as I watch those I care about be lost one by one. Not just worthy samurai but worthy people. Friends."

"Everyone has their duty and their own talents. Not being a bushi doesn't mean you are helpless. The empire wouldn't function if everyone in it was trained just for battle," he replies. "Just have to figure out how your talents can help defend against the siege. Organization, preparation, proper rationing, improving morale... each task needs to be performed by someone."

"Doji-sama is right. Organization is going to be twice as important if the Governor chooses to remain sequestered, and twice as delicate an operation. I certainly wouldn't be able to convince the Lion to do anything at all. Your training might give you a much better shot."

"I see."

She thought about the words before shaking her head slightly, "I suppose you've given me something to think about, if nothing else. Now, if you'll excuse me for running off so fast, I was on my way to somewhere before I stopped up here, and I cannot tarry long."

Yukarin gave them another bow, "It was good to see you again, Doji-sama. And to meet you, Kakita-sama."

Masahiko blinked, but returned the bow. "As you say, Yasuki-sama. I hope it wasn't something I said."

Yukarin blushed from the comment, "Oh no, no. I just need to get to the castle is all. Shosuro Sara-sama is expecting me, and her play will be starting very very soon. I... could not stop myself from coming up here to see with my own two eyes the consequences of this war though."

Monkhbaatar nodded. "If there is somewhere you need to be, I won't hold you up. It was a pleasure to see you again as well."
