Kanade had sent out a letter to the Sparrow, hoping it didn't sound too shady. "Hello, Suzume-San. This one met your acquaintance back at a wedding in your homelands some seasons back. I humbly request your presence at (address) as the sun reaches its peak. I have need of one of your skill."

Chihaya was not sure how well she remembered this Mantis, but she was rarely directly invited to give aid...

So she came.

Dressed in a white kimono, with black hems and sleeves, which faded upward into painted tree branches, forming a winter scene, with a sparrow mon perched upon a branch over her left breast, the branch holding a single cherry blossom. Her daisho was angled low, as befit her status, the rich red obi a strong contrasting color to her dichromatic clothing.

Pausing outside the warehouse, she pondered what she was needed to do here. Was another person wrongly assuming she was a magistrate, perhaps?

Kanade bowed low as she saw the Suzume. She wore a green kimono with a design of plum blossoms and if one looked closely, the occasional gilt mantis was embroidered in under the leaves. "Suzume-sama, this one has came on an unusual situation. "Come in and I will show you." As the Mantis opened the door, all manner of animal sounds and scents emitted. However, as all had been transferred recently, it was pretty clean all things considered.

Looking within there were four dogs in separate cages,a cage of five chickens, a large cage of twittering sparrows, and a very random pair of goats penned in the back. All looked a bit thin, but decently healthy.

Chihaya followed the Mantis and then paused, looking very surprised.

"Well. This is quite... quite the collection."

She wasn't entirely sure what to make of such a motley assortment.

"I found a shop with conditions this one considers deplorable this morning. I did as I believe Fukurokujin would will, and Daikoku has blessed me with the fortune to do. I purchased his entire wares, offered prayers for healing to the kami for those animals that appeared to need it, and already have found more appropriate home for a few of these less fortunate."

She gestured with a head movement, towards the sparrow and walked towards the cage. "I noticed birds like these in your lands. It makes sense to this one, these are Sparrow. They are healthy, albeit underfed and having been mistreated..." One male snapped its beak and flew at the bars as she held a hand near it, clearly untamed. "Look at the fight in them, little survivors." A tone of awe colored Kanade's voice.

"What would you have done with them?"

Chihaya looked surprised.

She had never been called out to see to wild birds before.

In some small way, it was gratifying, and reassuring, that small acts of compassion could take place in the midst of such chaos.

Strolling over, she examined the cage, and the birds within.

"I don't... I don't know a great deal about keeping birds. Do you think they would do well in the wild, this far north? In winter, no less?"

For that matter... "I hear some pet birds have their flight feathers taken, do these all still have theirs?"

Kanade paused and looked at them. The eight sparrows hopped and fluttered within the cage. "I don't know how well they would do in winter, at least without some proper feeding first. They may fly south on there own. I know some birds travel depending on the seasons, but I personally don't know anything about the flight pattern of sparrows."

She leaned in to look. "There are some feathers missing. After they moult, they would regrow their flight feathers as well as any others. They will be able to fly free again some day, safely, with care. Perhaps I can try and see if the kami will respond to my prayers tomorrow, if you wish."

Ooc:Not sure if they currently have their feathers clipped will have to ask, assuming due to their care and description a least some are missing, also will ask if feather regeneration is possible healing

Chihaya shook her head. "No. There will be many among the defenders who will need the aid of the kami, ere long."

Stepping closer, she examined the birds more closely, expression neutral. "If they will mend with time, then all they need is someone to give them that time."

Glancing at the Mantis, she added, "How much were they to purchase?"

Kanade nodded agreeing defenders lives came first. Kanade hesitated a second, discussing sums with someone out of clan was a bit outside the norm. Also discussing a sum of such size with a Sparrow made her a tad uncomfortable.

"The merchant and I did not discuss the animals in terms of separate denominations. The total sum was my personal allotment. However, of important acquisition was a lioness who has sense been returned to the Lion clan and whose origin is being investigated by Magistrate."

"I see."

She scowled at the cages, and then added, "I do not wish to simply take these birds from you, Kanade-san. It is not my way to expect such things..."

Glancing at the birds, she added, "Yet I would not leave these to their fates, any more than the others. What payment would suit?"

Kanade looked thoughtful a moment, "the care of the birds alone carries some value, but... Perhaps, this: the storytelling ability of the Sparrow is unparalleled. I would ask you to tell two tales shining the Mantis in a better light than we are often cast, to differing audiences at points you see fit."

Chihaya looked pensive.

"While I am not against this matter, I can only speak that which I know to be true, and I have not met many of your clan - so my repertoire is limited. I would have to ponder the request to find stories worth telling."

"That is fair and acceptable. I understand if you cannot abide such a request. Either way, I would appreciate if they found a place back to their rightful lands." She looked around the animals, her expression a bit sad and soft.

Chihaya nodded. "I would be willing to attempt the task you have laid before me, I simply cannot promise that I know such tales."

A faint sigh, "But when I learn them, I would spread them. Is that fair?"
