It was not much, but it was something. Nagiko's room was enough for her. The inn was rather small, not very well decorated but it enough for a samurai.

She has lived in far worse places, like in the deck of a mantis kobune, so in comparison this was like a luxury house.

After her conversation with inquisitor Kashiwagi, Nagiko wondered if there was something more that she could do with this ability of hers. Frankly, she never even have tried anything beyond having fun in strange places. But, with the armies of Hantei XVI-heika and their return, followed by the words that the Asako said to her about realms and their influence, then she got the idea of looking around.

Once again, as she has done many times before, she adopted seiza and closed her eyes. Controlled her breathing and searched for her inner void, as she tried to separate her body and her soul...

You show up back where you last left... by the strange water feature. Only now, it's completely frozen over and a pervasive chill hangs in the air.

Once again her spiritual form adopted it usual figure, the one of a bakeneko in her hybrid form.

She then looks around, in all fours, searching for any danger. Nagiko wanted to look for answers to her inner dillemma as also as what was happening around the spiritual realms, so after looking around for a while, she sat in seiza, trying to see if there's any way to contact any spirits of sakkaku that could give her some answers.

It is oddly quiet where you are, and nothing seems to be happening.

You know that the spirits of Sakkaku are not particularly helpful. Even if you got answers, they'd likely be tinged with some amount of untruths or partial obfuscations.

Do you want to continue to wait, or move around?

Nagiko decide to explore, though she doesn't know where to find a particularly helpful spirit in this case, she will look around.

You see the tracks of some strange creatures. It looks like a smaller creature is being followed by a larger one, and then their paths diverge to the left (smaller) and the right (larger).

Nagiko, in all fours decide to follow the tracks of the smaller one, not for any reason at all. It seems all random, and trickery could be in any choice she made...

As you walk, you can hear the sounds of something like waves getting closer, but there is a large hill ahead you can't see past.

The tracks go up the hill.

Nagiko continues forward. It was a strange thing to hear waves, around a hill, but, stranger things existed in Sakkaku.

As you crest the hill, you can see a person sitting on the shores of the water. They appear to be painting a picture.

Post subject:  Re: [D7 - EN] The Mantis, The Cat and the Serpent? (Closed,

That's it! Well, the only thing of relevance. There's an ocean. And a painting. And the hill you're on.

Not much is changing, just a person slowly painting.

You're too far away to really make out the painting, though.

Post subject:  Re: [D7 - EN] The Mantis, The Cat and the Serpent? (Closed,

Nagiko approaches, slowly. She doesn't use stealth, that would be pointless, instead she raise up, and start walking with her two legs towards the painter...

Post subject:  Re: [D7 - EN] The Mantis, The Cat and the Serpent? (Closed,

The painting, Nagiko sees as she gets nearer, is Nagiko.

The person is a woman with long black hair, and while you can't yet see her face, she seems to be naked.

Post subject:  Re: [D7 - EN] The Mantis, The Cat and the Serpent? (Closed,

Well, that is strange. Nagiko thought. This probably was a very strange and elaborate prank from some spirit, or from Sakkaku itself...

'' Anoo?....'' Nagiko tries to get the attention of the apparently faceless woman?...

Post subject:  Re: [D7 - EN] The Mantis, The Cat and the Serpent? (Closed,

"Oh... thank the kami you're here! I've been..."

The woman turns... and it's like looking into a mirror. Nagiko is standing before naked Nagiko painting Nagiko. And now that you're closer the Nagiko that is being painted looks like she's been cut by a hundreds sheets of paper, but is not bleeding.

"...trickster! You will not steal my form!"

Author:  Nagiko [ Fri Apr 17, 2020 4:05 am ]
Post subject:  Re: [D7 - EN] The Mantis, The Cat and the Serpent? (Closed,

Nagiko laughs. Her laughing fusing her normal voice with the bakeneko purr of her projected form.

'' Gomen, gomen...''

'' Wise trickster Spirit of Sakkaku...'' She spoke in general, not just to the Nagiko bunshin in front of her, thinking that there probably another trickster doing this illusion. Or maybe not...

'' How can Nagiko, steal Nagiko, when said Nagiko, paints Nagiko, pretending to be Nagiko, Tricking Nagiko, into thinking it is not Nagiko, but it is Nagiko?'' She asked in a strange way, trying to engage in conversation with whatever spirit was here...

"How much would could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?"

There is a laugh from "real" Nagiko that seems to echo off the surroundings (even though the surroundings are basically an ocean), and, disturbingly, the echo seems to happen at the same time as the original laugh.

"Nagiko wishes to steal Nagiko? That is easy, yes, yes. Walk into the painting."

The Nagiko on the painting beckons you in.
