Chihaya had agreed too a little cultural exchange, and so she found herself in the merchant quarter of the city, ready to see about getting a large barbarian some hakama.

After all, someone had to, right?

While she waited, dressed in her typical dun brown kosode and dark gray hakama, her more fancy clothes packed away for a safer time, she browsed a stall of sake bottles, curious about the unusually shaped ones, and how they might have made them.

Bashiru approached with Batzurig mounted on top, spotting the Suzume he guided her through the market. He called out once at a comfortable speaking distance, “Sayyeda, it is good to meet again. Have you had your rice, today, as they say.”

Chihaya chuckled. "I have indeed, Moto-san."

A nod.

"And you? Any luck finding a... yoguruto?"

“Not yet, but the day is young,” he replied. “I have brought you things, I was able to convince some of the Unicorn that a poor girl needed warm clothes or she would die of cold. That’s you, you’re the poor girl.”

She hid a snort of laughter behind one hand.

"How kind of you to clarify. I never could have guessed."

Gesturing to the shops and booths, she added, "I'm afraid I don't know what size to get for you, so you will have to try them on here - but I've found a promising place."

Gesturing to the building across the street, a small shop with a porcelain maneki-neko by the door, she added, "You may have to tell your mighty steed to wait... or... whatever you do when you go inside."

Batzurig dismounted and presented Bashiru a treat and then brushed her mane briefly before saying, “I am ready.”

“Her name is Bashiru.”

"Bashiru... I can say that name."

A soft chuckle, and she pointed to the door. "In we go."

Entering the shop, she gave a little wave to the owner. "Konnichiwa, Mako-chan."

The shopkeep, a small woman with hard features, sized up Batzurig as he came through the door.

"Big one, ain't he?"

Chihaya grinned, and gestured "She can help fit you up."

The Moto just looked down at her and said, "Hello."

The short woman bustled out, and in a manner only a mother could, ushered the man toward the back.

She seemed fit to change him herself, unless he told her not to.

Already her arms were full of cloth, having chosen a handful of different kosode to try.

Chihaya loitered by the door, hiding a smile, letting the scene unfold.

Batzurig was polite and followed her instructions, if this was the way, then then it was the way. He said to the woman in his deep gruff tone, “Thank you for this service.”

"It's not problem. A friend of Chihaya-sama is a friend of mine."

Then she seemed to realize she'd been a little too friendly, and amended, "Samurai-samas."

With a laugh, Chihaya waved a hand. "I don't think Moto-san is one to stand on ceremony. I brought him to you because you're an expert clothier, not an etiquette expert."

Barring any resistance, the little woman would soon have him stripped down to his underclothes, then beginning the relatively quick process of wrapping him in kosode, obi, and then hakama. The chosen clothes were a soft linen, roomy and breathable - good for a hot day, riding a horse, or simply resting about.

Batzurig nodded and said, "It is fine, I came here to look like a proper samurai, I suppose."

When she was done, he had a rich plum colored kosode, with a hastily embroidered unicorn mon over the left breast, and a warm gray hakama. The obi was light gray, for simplicity, and the entire ensemble felt sturdy and easy enough to wear. The clothier had even acquired tabi and geta.

When she was finished, Chihaya inquired, "Well? Tolerable?"

"It feels light," he said.

"Is this on right?"

Chihaya checked, with a cursory glance.

"It seems like it.

Walk around a bit. If nothing falls off, you should be good, ne?"

A faint chuckle, and she added, "I did say it was good for warm weather and exercise - if you want something for the cold, we usually add a few layers - we could get you a haori coat to go on top, if you like.

She pulled one from the rack, though it was a rather light shade of pink.

"Like this - the nice thing is they layer easily, so you can comfortably adjust how much you wear."

The large moto walked around he had a gait that was used to riding so a bit bow legged. He said to the woman, “This is good quality, thank you.”

He added to the Sparrow, “Not so bad, what is this called again? Is this the formal wear?”

"These are hakama and Kosode - and if you add a haori coat, it is somewhat formal... but it is for everyday wear. It is acceptable in almost any part of life - though it would be a bit simple for an imperial court."

She nodded sagely. "I didn't think court dress was really something you'd be interested in, considering how convoluted that higher court etiquette can become."

"What you think I could not handle a Crane or Imperial court?" he asked.

She appraised him for a half second, and then replied, in a dry tone. "Would you like the honest answer, or the courteous one?"

"I piss on courteous answers," he replied.
