In the building calm as the armies departed, with the essence of Toshigoku still at least a little active in the city, Mari moved into the dark of the streets one more time. For once, she felt considerably more confident than she had in the past. The situation was still packed, but not nearly so dire. When she found a convenient, thick portion of the city, she moved into a shadowy corner.

Avoiding notice was next to impossible, but she'd gotten good at a surreptitious cut to her arm so that her spellcasting wasn't going to be noticed. Her understanding of riding the water dragon would heal the wound and matters would be settled soon enough. "That's right little friend," she whispered softly to the giddy little kansen. Go share our gift with another friend. We'll be able to play more soon." In a town without nearly so many people packed into one place.
