Road weary and foot sore, Kodama and the monks from the Temple of the Seven Dragons rolled their salvaged scrolls and holy items up to the doors of the Phoenix Blessing Shrine. Kodama wasn't certain this would be the one his letter was for. But given the history of the Temple in Toshi no Omoidoso, it seemed like a good bet. |

Plodding along after him, was another bearing some of the scrolls. The staff made his gait oddly into a 3-beat. Which might have been the only thing to keep him moving the past few days. Once inside, he sinks into a kneeling position, to rest. |

Kodama moved to cleanse himself and then get some water. It was a trick to carry two cups, but carefully he did so. Setting one down near Hachi. He nods once, then takes a sip of his own. |

*gasp, gasp* "Thank you, Kodama-san." *cough, cough-cough* He takes the cup, murmurs a quick prayer under his breath, then gulps half of it down. A few more deep breaths seem to finally allow him to catch his breath. "I truly thought bringing down the mountain pass would grant us more time." |

Touki was there at the shrine as well, kneeling in prayer. Or... not prayer. Dutiful devotion, anyway, as was expected of a Lion. The appearance of the Phoenix and the monk briefly drew his attention; recognizing the monk, Touki slowly inclined his head. But that done, he turned back, his expression blank, as he worked on putting in the allotted time. |

"It is a beautiful place. I enjoy it every time I look." A monk stands near Touki. His robes are a bit more ornate than one normally expects of the Brotherhood. His words are precise and softly spoken, and his eyes aren't on any one person. It's possible he spoke to himself. |

Touki glanced uncertainly at the monk. Then, back forward. Then, after a few more uncertain seconds, back to the monk, deciding that the words were an invitation, if not an explicit one. "Is this shrine under your care, Monk-san?" Touki asked, frowning gently. "If so, I must imagine that you look quite often." |

"It is under many people's care," he says unhelpfully. "Everyone has a part in respecting our revered ancestors. And I do look quite often because I do assist in the maintenance of these shrines." He looks down on Touki in more ways than one. "It is a clean place full of beautiful things, dedicated to the great Phoenix who came before us." |

Touki grimaced gently, rising to his feet. In fact, he hadn't yet washed himself of the grime of the road. "The morning is when I give my devotions to my ancestors, as is proper." He said, his voice a low monotone. "It may wait for duty, but there is little else that it waits for." |

Kodama nods. "The mountain pass gave others time. How much more heroic the deed when it benefits us none?" He looks up and around again, hoping to see someone local. |

"An admirable position to take. Tell me, Lion-sama, do you have Phoenix ancestors?" He seems genuinely curious, as he can see that underneath the grime you may be a decent person. Possibly. |

Gently, Touki shook his head. "I do not. I hope it is not a trespass, but..." Touki grimaced again. "As you say, it is a beautiful place. Devotions can be said anywhere, but, well..." It was a difficult thing for him to explain. "My superior's wife was a Phoenix. A Henshin, I believe." He added. |

He nods enthusiastically at that. "You show good taste by honoring the ancestors of even those close to you. I'm glad you came to see the wonders of the shrine. I think the aesthetic really helps show the importance of the ancestors." |

Kayou, who had done an abbreviated ritual to welcome Lady Sun this morning, set about helping the monks unpack. |

Ayanojo had been at the Shrine for his morning prayers. The sudden influx of people while he had been communing caught him somewhat by surprise, and he approached cautiously. Seeing an unfamiliar monk with an equally unfamiliar kinsmen, he bowed politely to Kodama and Hachi, before scribbling something quickly on his wax tablet, which he then held up for them to read with a questioning and worried look in his eyes. Quote: Do you need medical attention?

Kodama shakes his head. "Just some time, and a chance to talk to the local abbot. Have a message from Toshi no Omoidoso and the Temple of the Seven Dragons to deliver." He looks out to the cart of boxes and crates. "And hope for refuge for knowledge." |

Ayanojo nodded, his worried expression easing into a small smile. He indicated the monk talking to the Lion as someone Kodama should talk to. He looked at Hachi and quickly scribbled some more on his tablet. Quote: Isawa-sama. I am Asako Ayanojo, Tensai of Air, do you need any assistance?

Kodama bows to the small Phoenix, and moves to do just that. He does step to one side after bowing a greeting, allowing the nicely dressed monk time to finish with the Akodo he was assisting. |

There was the tiniest of twinges of concern on Aya's face at the cough, but he was soon concentrating on this tablet again as he indented his next message. Quote: There are so many newcomers, Isawa-sama. Can you tell me what has happened?
