The Asako hero was out early and reached the Blue Tiled Room to do some spell research into a spell to better attack the spirits of Toshigoku. He felt he had a solid handle on what was needed and had presented his ideas to the Phoenix delegation and now he was here to build something new with his steeped arcane knowledge.

It was time to regulate.

Tucked in the stacks on the spirit realms was the local giant, newly freed from his diplomatic prison and eager to return to his beloved books. His axe rested against his reading table, as he was heading to the dojo right after. His lips were pursed as he pored over a text. A piece of parchment at his side received a few notations.

The Asako looked at this giant scholar with mild amusement. He broke the silence with, "Good morning, I did not expect to see anyone here so early."

Masahiko turned his head slowly to greet his fellow-scholar with a smile, then his eyes widened comically.

"Oh! Asako-sama!" He rose to his full height, took a step back to create distance, and bowed deeply. "Ah, hai! Good morning! I..." Like books? "...recognized the need to learn something of the enemy." Yeah, that's the ticket!

His eyes fixed on the Asako's cheekbone. "I take it you are here for a similar reason?"

"I like books," he replied.

He then gestured to the fact many texts were missing and said, "I am using what we have to study the enemy and devise methods of opposing them."

Oh....so he can read minds! Wait...ignore that, Asako-sama.

Masahiko brightened considerably. "Then I place myself at your service. I've been coming to the library for this purpose each day, with one interruption, since word reached us of what happened at Morikage Toshi. It's been...diminished, but this is home to me."

“That speaks well of you to seek more information to build up what you lack in knowledge. I confess that I never considered having to face returned ancestors from Toshigoku but here we are,” he mused.

“Have your scholarly pursuits produced any results, Kakita-san?”

"I have learned some things about Toshigoku itself, and its role in relation to the kharmic wheel. Apparently, when hatred or love violence rises above service, a spirit may be judged irredeemable by Emma-O, as slaves to a very particular Desire. It is these we face now, though Hantei XVI must be a spirit of significantly greater power than the others, as the Kitsu say that these spirits do not normally understand allegiance or service for an extended period of time. The journey from Toshi no Omoidasu to Nikesake should have caused them to disperse to seek other battles."

Masahiko shook his head sadly. "His will must be immense."

"He is a Hantei, a son of Heaven," he said with a shrug.

Masahiko wisely refrained from even thinking that he could name some Sons of Heaven that were gutless numbskulls and pushovers oh, shit!

He braced for the Inquisitor to light him up. When it didn't happen, he thanked Jizo and moved along.

"Right. Ah...apparently, Kitsu visitors to the realm have been known to take on some of its attributes temporarily. Very temporarily."

"What do you mean?" he asked with interest.

Spell research was to be done. The Kashiwagi had commanded it and Ayanojo was not one to disobey on these stakes. They needed an advantage over the returned spirits that was not expected.

What was not expected to Ayanojo however, was to find a giant Crane talking to Kashiwagi when he arrived. He bowed and reflexively wrote out his usual greeting while trying not to stare.

Quote:
Good morning, I am Asako Ayanojo, Tensai of Air.

Masahiko bowed easily in return, a smile of genuinely pleased greeting on his handsome face. "Greetings, Asako-san! Kakita Masahiko, ambassadorial staff!"

He let the ono and his advanced musculature suggest the specific capacity.

"It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance! I was just speaking with Asako-sama about the realm of Toshigoku." He turned back to Kashiwagi. "It seems that sodan-senzo travelling in that realm reported feeling unusual spikes in aggression even after returning to Ningen-do, though this lasted only a few hours. They report that the hold is not persistent."

“Interesting we had surmised that if we could somehow break the hold the Steel Chrysanthemum has on them, they would become a rabble of bloodthirsty killers, still dangerous but not a unified danger. Of course, perhaps with such extended time on ningen-do they may be less prone to violence? Something has allowed them some sense of purpose and focus,” he said contemplating the meaning.

Masahiko also frowns. "I haven't observed an attempt to parley with one, Asako-sama. It would be an interesting challenge to ascertain whether their aggression is decreasing, especially in an environment which lends itself to aggression."

He looked to Ayanojo. "What do you think, Asako-sama?"

Tamaki was in the background, quietly focused on her research.

Ayanojo blinked at the axe. That was not regulation library equipment. And why was the Crane so big? What did they feed him? His thoughts detracted on the quality of his answer, written quickly on to his wax tablet and held up for them to read.

Quote:
I haven't met a returned spirit yet to know. Asako-sama where are the scrolls we were working on yesterday? I thought I left them on that table.

He was pointing at a quite empty table.

"Those were probably sent back to the our clan for safekeeping, I did reserve some lesser texts for us to continue our research over on that shelf. I also brought a rather interesting text I found last night, that should be helpful," he responded.

On one of the cushions nearby, a Togashi was quietly reading to herself. It was a shame the most interesting texts were gone from the previous times she had visited, but still she found something to stimulate the mind.

Well that was going to complicate matters as he had expected to have them at hand to refer to when needed. Still, needs must. He bowed to Kashiwagi again and started the work they'd been assigned, but was careful to make sure he paid attention to the Giant Crane in case he asked another question.
